I enjoyed silent reading on Clubhouse, where it was literally just an hour of people reading quietly with everybody’s microphone on mute. You sort of feel like you’re doing it “with” people because you know they’re doing the same thing as you. It’s nice to see it happening in the real world, too. https://www.thehindu.com/life-and-style/india-silent-book-reading-cubbon-lodhi-juhu-kochi-kolkata-bessy-hyderabad-community-mindfulness-public-spaces/article67044379.ece

I saw a group of 4 women at a table reading silently (and also taking breaks to talk) at the neighbourhood coffee shop today. I wonder if they sat outside because there was music playing inside, and whether they know about the silent reading phenomenon.

I know of 3 or 4 meetup groups in Toronto (one that I’ve “aged out” of) where the emphasis is on being quiet and working on something (or, not quite working on something, but doing the same thing). Not necessarily together, but just in the same room.

I attended my first in-person silent book club meeting hosted by @bookgaga today. Just wonderful. We discussed the books we had just finished, and what we were reading quietly today, and then got to it for an hour uninterrupted. It was an hour by transit each way, and very much worth the travel time (besides, I like riding the subway and streetcars).

@sillygwailo Richard, it was so great to meet you in person today, to hear your very interesting reading update, and to share quality silent reading time with you and the group. It's kinda magical, isn't it?
