Anyone using Firefox on desktop as their daily driver, any issues to be expected?

@arturo182
I've been using as my main browser on windows (~20 years), Linux (10+ years), Android (always) and iOS (whenever I had an iOS device, which is "sometimes"). Ask me anything!

Shortcuts, Extensions, Settings, Sync/Firefox Account, Development Tools, Issues

@arturo182 Biggest issue is Ubuntu forcing the Snap packaged version. This can be fixed now that Mozilla provide a deb repo with regular builds.

@ben
This is very true and annoying. It is was what finally drove me away from Ubuntu over to Fedora.

No issue so far, but I was very annoyed at the sponsored shortcuts appearing on the new tab page last year.

It's working fine with ublock, and the reading mode is a godsend for crappy websites (but I think it's on every browser now?).

As for extensions, the archive.org one is great. The multi-account container is very helpful too for work and multiple accounts.

@arturo182 it just fucking works, has ublock extensions, and is not from google.

They get practically all their money from Google, though. Like 80% of their budget is from a deal making Google the default search engine.

@claudius @arturo182 i know. But I still believe they have some kind of independence not to just clone chrome to the word, yet.

@arturo182 most fancy APIs for interaction with hardware are not or only partially supported and probably will never be. Things like webUsb, webSerial, webBluetooth.
The rest works fine and you get less account nudges than chrome/edge.

@matmair
This might change (discussions about finally supporting web Bluetooth sparked again a couple of weeks ago), but for now this is, sadly, true.

@claudius very interesting - the last things I read regarding webSerial and webBluetooth on both bugtracker and standards positions sounded very negative and are the main reason I am not deploying (for others) or recommending Firefox anymore.
The standard position on Bluetooth still sounds pretty negative:
