18 May 1942 | A transport of 70 Polish men (including 14 Jews) arrived at Auschwitz from Montelupich prison in Krakow.

One of them was a Polish man Julian Stanoch, a geologist & professor of Jagiellonian University. He became no. 35743. He perished in the camp on 21 September 1942.

We know that at least 30 prisoners from this transport were killed in Auschwitz and only five survived the war.

Over 400 thousand people were registered at Auschwitz as prisoners.

The two largest groups of prisoners registered in Auschwitz were Jews of different nationalities (separate category, some 200k) and Poles (some 140k). Our podcast talks about the situation of Polish & Jewish prisoners in the camp.
