On the ridge from Benlettery to Bengower in Connemara. A good Sunday hike, and we dodged the showers until the home stretch

The anglicized names obscure the natural Irish ones: Binn Leitrí is "peak of the wet hillsides"; Binn Gabhar is "goats' peak"

    I love the shape of Benlettery from the north. It's like a big ocean wave in geological time

    Photo of a small mountain in the west of Ireland. It's broadly conical, steeper on the right (the western side), about a 1:1 gradient. The left-hand slope is a bit gentler and curves gradually to a short flat summit. The surface has exposed rock beneath moss, heather, and grasses, giving a mottled appearance in shades of grey, green, yellow, and brown. Behind the mountain on either side are glimpses of lake, forest, and low hills under a gloomy grey sky.
