Tulip escaped again! She’s too smart! I caught her but she almost got taken by the house spider. She is home safe. I’m so glad she’s ok. This ant will be the death of me. Why do I have such bad sneaky little ants?? #namedAnts
@futurebird I really appreciate you showing these ants and their stories; I keep appreciating the colonies and ecosystem around our home more from the behaviors and stories about ants you've been sharing.
Ecch... the Buddhists have some wonderful thoughts on the nature of consciousness - here we are, with all this life around us - and we're just now coming to terms with how these creatures behave.
@futurebird@depereo there is an ant consistently going back and forth on my picnic table, seemingly for weeks. Now I kinda want to use bee paint on them and find out if it’s just one.
It's a paint that beekeepers use to mark queen bees. I thought it would be fun to mark some of the ants to get to know them better. I singled out ants that I caught escaping, and I've discovered that the same ants like to try to escape... while most of them are scared to go near the lid at all when I'm feeding them and cleaning their outworld.
