In the case of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu has made a career presenting himself as a strongman for Israel. Netanyahu has presented himself as the only one who can protect Israel, the only person who could prevent a Palestinian State, and someone with a special relationship with the US GOV. Over the course of his political career he has polarized Israeli society, and arguably radicalized the leadership of Israel at multiple levels.
