some of my wife's (white) grandparents were farmers in california when the Panthers bought a plot of land next door, trying to start a
commune or a coop of some sort
and they said the Panthers were their best neighbors because among all the farmers they were the only ones who kept to themselves and didn't constantly play games over property lines, water rights, &c.

Growing up in the south bay, my public school took the expedient approach of teaching almost nothing that happened after WW2, neatly avoiding the entire issue
@dymaxion@Wolven it sounds a lot like the history classes I took here. It always ended shortly after the foundation of the republic and the Ottoman history before that was cut down to a joke.
