crimeschneck , in Help identifying some samples/movie clips in songs?

This maybe helps with the second song: https://www.whosampled.com/LemKuuja/Jude.03/

But I can't find the first song on whosampled.

These guys are awesome!

elasereray , in Keith Jarrett - Nagoya Parts I, II and Encore Compilation

Agreed! He is a master of notes, but can move beyond notes at the exact same time. He can also sound like two people (or more) at the same time.
I've got the Sun Bear concerts on vinyl. Might have to give a few a spin tomorrow. Thanks for making this post!

djsoren19 , in Tennessee House GOP Blocks Proclamation Honoring Grammy Winner Allison Russell, While Letting Similar Measure for Paramore Pass

The Tennessee House is basically as MAGA as they come, so this isn't surprising when you remember that they tried to expel two Black lawmakers from the house earlier last year on similar racist grounds. I'd hope that we could see some change this year, but I lived in Tennessee. I know those districts. A better bet is for anyone still sane to get out.

RestrictedAccount ,

Paramore has announced that they “will not accept any acknowledgement or honor from the TN House” for its Grammy wins after a lawmaker objected to similar honors for singer/songwriter Allison Russell.

The group accuse Tennessee’s Republican-led House of Representatives of “blatant racism” after a lawmaker paused a resolution honoring Black singer-songwriter Russell’s recent Grammy win.

The House Republican Caucus Chair who objected to the resolution honoring Russell, Rep. Jeremy Faison (R-Tenn.), claimed “The resolution wasn’t blocked” in a statement.

JJROKCZ , in Tennessee House GOP Blocks Proclamation Honoring Grammy Winner Allison Russell, While Letting Similar Measure for Paramore Pass

Tennessee republicans being full mask off these past few years will hopefully bite them in the ass this upcoming election. Sadly I’m concerned it won’t, they’re only this blatant because they know vast swathes of Tennessee and the rest of the traitor states agree with them

The fact that they tried to pull this with them of all bands might top Paul Ryan's "I love Rage Against the Machine" moment

ech , in Paramore Rejects Tennessee House Resolution On Band’s Grammy Wins After Singer/Songwriter Allison Russell Snub

For those as baffled by the headline as me, the Tennessee House regularly honors musicians/artists from their state, voted on by the representatives. This year, while Paramore's honors were passed through with no issue, the resolution to honor Allison Russell was "paused" due to "questions" some members of the House had. Noteably the same house that just last year voted to kick out two black members but not the white member who did the same thing.

Also, not that this isn't very admirable of Williams, but this article really focuses on her and not Allison Russell, which seems inappropriate, tbh. Variety published a better article that focuses more on Russell and the House member that brought her resolution to vote.

💯 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯

White cishet calling out bigotry is the bare minimum and absolutely not worth the media stealing the spotlight from those harmed. I was really confused reading this article trying to understand what was going on. Ty for the link!

But at any rate, fuck you Tennessee.

OTOH they're a world famous band, which gives much more exposure to the problem. I'm from France and I clicked the post because I know Paramore, I'd have ignored it otherwise.

Well I do feel where you are coming from, I didn't know Allison Russell before this article, (Although I'm listening to her winning album now and super in to it!) Ain't nothing wrong with the headline, more the content of the article. Which is why that variety article linked is better since it actually focuses more on Allison then near exclusively on Paramore.

Really all I'm doing is pointing out the white savior complex is still alive. Hayley Williams did nothing wrong, this is just flawed media narrative.

Allison Russell's album is extremely good. Listen to it.

Hell yeah, the amount of genius crammed in to Donuts' 43 minutes is completely mind blowing, before you even consider the fact that Dilla was literally on his death bed when he was putting it together. It's definitely one of my favorites of all time and probably did more to change how I hear music than any other single thing I can think of.

Just one of those brilliant moments - the sample flip on Don't Cry

MxM111 , in Paramore Rejects Tennessee House Resolution On Band’s Grammy Wins After Singer/Songwriter Allison Russell Snub

TN house has nothing better to do, it looks like, other than promote racism it seems.

unmagical , in Paramore Rejects Tennessee House Resolution On Band’s Grammy Wins After Singer/Songwriter Allison Russell Snub

Why is the state involved in this at all--like in any capacity? What does this have to do with governance or representing?

Tennessee spends time declaring its official state amphibian the Tennessee cave salamander - I sleep

Tennessee attempts to recognize Grammy award winning artist who lives in their state - real shit?!

ech ,

Eh, a state recognizing the accomplishments of local artists is pretty cool. A state using that process to further enact bullshit bigotry is very much not.

jimmydoreisalefty , in J Dilla - Mash - Donuts (Full Album)
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

Awesome! Frank Zappa loop!

The bulk of J Dilla’s “Mash” consists of two primary samples: a looped, tuned-down piano sample of Galt MacDermot’s “Golden Apple” and vocals from Frank Zappa’s “Dance Contest”. In fact, Zappa’s repetition of the phrase, “they’ll be mashed” was used as inspiration for the track’s title. The combination of both samples allows for a jazzy, soulful twist of a piano tune reminiscent of a 1940s and 50s dance melody.

The final 10-15 seconds of “Mash” also bears almost exact similarity to “Glazed”, another track on Donuts, given that they both use the same Lou Rawls sample.
