#SCOTUS Puts #Trump #AboveTheLaw

And gives him permission for a despotic second term.

By Adam Serwer

Near the top of their sweeping, #lawless opinion in Trump v. #UnitedStates, Donald Trump’s defenders on the #SupremeCourt repeat one of the most basic principles of American constitutional government: “The president is not above the law.” They then proceed to obliterate it.

This is a dark day.

By withholding a ruling on Trump v. United States, the Supreme Court's far-right justices are effectively giving Trump the immunity he's seeking, making it all but impossible for him to face trial before the election for his efforts to overturn the election and his role in Jan 6.

@rbreich

Terrible and unbelievable, yet not surprising. He took care of it when he was in office.

So, I'm curious about exactly how much of Fedi is blocking threads.

Boost for reach please. So the poll gets good info.

PS. This isn't a debate post or anything. Just want info if you're willing to share. Thanks!

Edit: The poll is officially over (editing reactivates it but I'm not acknowledging it). The estimated counts are as follows:

Around 740 users AREN'T blocking Threads from this sample size.

Around 415 users ARE blocking Threads from this sample size.

In hindsight, I should have made the poll longer so it could spread around more.

I will do another poll when Threads updates their code to allow replies. That poll will be longer and I will re-edit this post again with the link to that post, so you can re-vote at that time, if you'd all be so kind. 😅

Thanks again, have a good day.

@BeAware

It is not actually me who is blocking, but my whole Mastodon instance, for reasons of “Self-protection” — which I appreciate a lot!

@BeAware

I did vote as such, just wanted to add this information. I believe a server block has more reach than an individual one.

It's shameful that public health institutions are fixated on weakening guidelines for people who are ignoring the pandemic, while doing nothing to meaningfully address one of the most important public health problems today: Higher risk people being excluded from society.

💯 Ableism at its worst.

Absolutely true, not only in the US, but everywhere.

#ClimateDiary Tackling inequality and its causes is the single most important action to address #ClimateEmergency.

We need to be better at recognising and showing everyone that all our interests are aligned - it shouldn’t be farmers against #JustStopOil or whatever; we should all be fighting #inequality and billionaires together. #WeAreThe99Percent

Great thread, this; couldn’t agree more!

The other day, I was presented with a fabulous online application called “Wealth, shown to scale” https://mkorostoff.github.io/1-pixel-wealth/

It is mind-boggling seeing the amount of wealth that is accumulated by so very few, and while you scroll (and scroll, and scroll, and scroll…) through the seemingly endless amount of money owned by Bezos and other super-rich, the page shows lots of facts and ideas. I love it.

Also, love Rutger Bregman: https://invidious.fi/watch?v=paaen3b44XY&local=true (Keep watching, Winnie Byanyima of Oxfam has to say some important things, too)
