    honestly i think a huge reason sci-fi / fantasy feels empowering and appealing even when it's kind of a shitty quasi-dystopian world is that these fictional settings often depict brutal conflict with the forces that immiserate humanity (capitalism, nationalism, &c.) but without the millions of banal worm-brained bigot-bootlickers whose only real motivation is that they do whatever the white-power tv network tells them
