If you've transferred your Mastodon account to another server, you probably shouldn't delete your old account. Old accounts are really useful:

  • Your old account redirects people to your new account

  • Your old posts redirect people to your new account

  • Your old posts remain in existence as long as the old account exists

  • Some followers may not come over in the first transfer, keeping your old account means you can ask it to try again for followers that are left behind

“Fedi HOA” or “Mastodon HOA” are dog whistles.

There are some folks who want you to think it’s wrong for instances to protect their black and/or queer community members by blocking instances that tolerate their members harassing people who are black and/or queer.

Those folks want to conflate that with the folks who fine you for having your grass too long or painting your door the wrong color.

I've become Calvins dad

Calvin and Hobbes strip 1st panel: Calvin standing in a doorway saying: Hey dad. I'm doing a traffic safety poster. Do you have any ideas for a slogan? 2nd panel: Calvin's dad standing by a bike, putting on his helmet, saying: Sure!     Sometimes when people argue with you online, they are picking up on an older argument that wasn't even about you or with you. An old argument they lost with someone else. You have the vague shape of their old enemy. They want to pick up the fight again. They want you to play the role of their old foe, desperately.

    This often 'works' because in treating you like another person they insult you. So maybe you get angry.

    And then you talk past each other and nothing is learned.
