Master Samwise got bored and went home. Steve on the other hand thought the first grape was cool but big Nope on the offer of a second

Oh much better. Thanks! Ta! Peanut firmly gripped, Steve scurries away. I think he sells some of these on the black market

Due to the way the Fediverse works, it's a good idea to have at least some followers (even a handful!) before you post interesting content. If you post stuff when you have literally zero followers, that content will usually not be visible outside your server, even if people follow you later.

There's more info on why this situation exists here:

➡️ https://fedi.tips/making-your-posts-visible-to-a-wider-audience-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse

One workaround is to pin posts on your profile, pinned posts are visible to everyone:

I'm nearly certain you can turn followers off completely. I know you can moderate them.

You also need to put in your profile if you do want folks to find you by what you wrote without tagging everything.

Note that the Privacy and Reach option is not available in some apps (moshidon, Fedilab), you may need to go to your server's webapp to find it.

Are you confused by Mastodon slang? Here's a quick guide:

Toot = Just means a post, the publish button in Mastodon used to say "Toot!" in reference to Mastodon's mascot :MastodonMascot:

Instance = Same thing as a server

Boost = Sharing a post, retweeting, some apps call it reblogging

Birdsite = Twitter

Vanilla Mastodon = Standard Mastodon, as opposed to customised Mastodon that some servers run (such as Glitch Mastodon)

CWs = Content Warnings, more info here: https://fedi.tips/how-to-use-content-warnings-cws-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse/

@FediTips

It is spelled P-O-S-T but pronounced 'toot'.

The English language is full of weird rules like this.
