A recent report found that Americans have become less likely to go out for a workday lunch, and more likely to eat a brought-from-home lunch at their desks.

Do you go out for a lunch break? And if not, why not?

@rbreich

I work from home about 50% of the time. My work facility's cafeteria closed during the pandemic, and their attempts to reopen failed.

Occasionally I'll drive with work friends to lunch, but there's nothing within walking distance so I'm unlikely to go out most days.

But going out is a lot more expensive, and the food isn't healthy.

Even though I pack my lunch, I still try to get away from my computer and eat in a common area with friends. It's a reason I still go into the office.

Today in Labor History May 16, 2007: Long before the current wave of union organizing at Starbucks, Baristas at the Starbucks in East Grand Rapids announced their membership in the IWW Starbucks Workers Union. Starbucks was and is notorious for their poor treatment of workers. The NLRB slapped them with numerous anti-labor violations and forced them to settle the Grand Rapids dispute in October. The Supreme Court is in the process of hearing the case of seven union workers from a Memphis, Tennessee Starbucks who were fired in retaliation for joining the union, in violation of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) rules.

I want a navigation app for mobile that priorities local coffee shops first and unionized Starbucks locations second.

Just curious: Do you know of any sci-fi movies with alien spaceships in which the alien ship controls and stations don't fit the human body at all, to the point where they are totally unusable by humans?

There are some in MIB I think.
Any other?

@Ailantd I think it's implied in Arrival (2016) because humans cannot even enter the alien habitat.

@Ailantd I always kinda assumed the alien ship in Star Trek IV was inhabited by whales. No idea what the controls would look like.

Humpback: "holy shit, WTF just happened?!"
Whaliens: "Oh hey! We've been trying to reach you."
Humpback: "the hoomans had us captive but we escaped"
Whaliens: "Oh dang, but you're good now?"
Humpback: "The water is hot, but yeah, we good."
Whaliens: "We were worried about you so we were going to boil the ocean."
Humpback: "You were going to what?"
Whaliens: "Glad you're okay, BYEEE!"

Tricycles, not the most stable machines, but fast enough and you would save the cost of one wheel.

Quick doodle with even quicker shade overlay.
