Friends, is there any way you can recycle old and unwearable clothes?

I don't mean giving away to charity, because I wear my clothes until there's nothing left of them, and that's no use to charities.

I mean, well, the fibres they're made of still exist and might be useful? Or is this something where there's no commercial recycling because it's not cost-effective, like how 99% of plastic never actually gets recycled?

I hate throwing anything away! But I have an ever growing collection of useless fabrics.

(And please, nobody advise me to learn how to make them into new clothes myself. That is not going to happen. Not now, and not in the remotely foreseeable future.)

(And also, please no advice which involves driving anywhere or requires one to live in a major city.)

I'm the same, I wear things to death. Sometimes I can reuse bits and pieces in sewing projects or to make patches for other items, but I've come to terms with just throwing things away. I've already had more use out of a t-shirt or pair of jeans than a huge proportion of the population, and most of them were bought 2nd hand in charity shops to start with.

So, unless your local charity shop is happy to take rags, try not to feel bad about just chucking them.

As someone currently helping to sort the cupboards of a deceased person, I beg you not to do that.... Unless you think the sorting out will fall to someone you really don't like....

It is frustrating when things can't be (or just aren't) recycled properly, but we've come to a resolution. We do what we can, probably more than a lot of people, but not at the expense of a huge amount of stress. If dumping a bin bag of stuff at the tip gets it out of the house, so be it.

Ads used to be beautiful. But so weird. This product is beef stock. The cow is crying.

I saw one once for a rival project which was called "Ex-Ox" (Extract of Ox, I assume) It featured an ox being carted off, in a railway wagon I think, shedding a tear....
