It's kinda wild that I'm writing a react native mobile app, and after a few years of practice, I'm finally at a level where I can write great code!

Looking forward to rewriting the webUI from scratch after the mobile app, loops and sup are released.

I know we could aim for a single codebase like bluesky, but I'd like to keep our core/backend project separate from clients in the long run, so we can refactor the backend to go or rust

I really need to dust off our dev blog, I love writing em'

The latter is the only sane way to go, separation of concerns, no shared secrets.

Loops and Sup were created out of my frustration with the state of the pixelfed app.

Things have changed, the new app is not only better, but ready for these features, but now I'm wondering if I should keep them separate

🤔

@dansup

This is frequently the way with outgrowths. Perhaps incorporate them as named Features? Even if they have their own infrastructure.

American military leaders were aware of the dangers of radioactive particles long before or .

On there was a special unit under Operation Peppermint, that came ashore in Normandy with Geiger Counters in anticipation that the Nazis might "pepper" the beaches with uranium particles to sicken and slow the invasion.

    Folks, if your strategy is to vote multiple times (at ~€1/pop) to try and influence the Eurovision Song Contest outcome against Israel: please don’t.

    Financially rewarding the EBU will only make them look successful. You don’t buy all the beer at the fascist bar to teach them a lesson.

    For those losing their heads over today's actions by Judge Cannon, take a deep breath. This was always going to happen. The writing has been on the wall since Judge Cannon was drawn for the case. Getting all worked up about it is only going to make you crazy and desperate. The way we will rid ourselves of this menace is at the polls in November.

    For a sober discussion on this topic this exchange today between @Teri_Kanefield and @JonChevreau is highly recommended:

    Yesterday 4/25/24... was a really bad day for the rule of law and the United States system of justice....
    although we don't yet know the outcome of the argument before SCOTUS... we do know they were extreme and corrupt in their thought and deeds... that Thomas was even seated was a travesty... that there was no real talk of trumps corrupt acts was a slight done on purpose.

    Optionally, they could be annually burned in effigy.

    Post from @rabble on why he's chosen to use and not and the . He makes some compelling points. Personally I am not too worried about the server admin parts of his argument (I have enough control, even if I don't control the server), but I agree that this isn't ideal:

    "You can’t use a single fediverse identity with your profile and followers in Peertube, Mobilizon, WriteFreely, and Pixelfed. You need a totally separate account in each one."

    Nesrine Malik on the Q of whether we live in an 'essentially conservative' country:

    'The only perennial truth about England is that it is an unequal country & the Conservative party has leveraged that inequality to its benefit: the English ruling class it represents has constructed its own majority'!

    But if Labour just accepts this 'myth' we will see little change; now is the time, she argues (rightly in my view) to empower our progressive instincts, not dismiss them.

    That's demonstrably untrue as we've had election results of all kinds in the past 20 years. It isn't the voting system, or voters.

    But go ahead and design a voting system that provides for a locally represented parliament across four countries and equitably across Metropolitan, town, country and rural areas. Oh and without giving political parties lists of unelected members to fudge a spurious proportionality.

    simon_lucy ,
    @simon_lucy@mastodon.social avatar

    @RolloTreadway @ChrisMayLA6

    A Transferable Vote system is Distributive, not Proportional. A directly elected assembly which isn't strictly one vote by one voter for one candidate is a fraud on the electorate.

    Choosing counting systems that individual voters don't understand is a different kind of fraud remember we have no qualifications of literacy or numeracy to vote and nor should there be.

    The only segment that benefits is Political Parties, the only one they fear is FPTP.

    simon_lucy ,
    @simon_lucy@mastodon.social avatar

    @RolloTreadway @ChrisMayLA6

    You can disagree, you can say there's just one vote with multiple preferences, but as the opportunities for preferences is limited it really amounts to multiple votes, even if the first vote is treated as a Mulligan.

    That may appear fine to you but finding it obnoxious isn't silly.

    I guess "Additionally, the box set includes an 80-page trilingual booklet (EN, FR, DE) with articles by Martin Kaltenecker, Harry Vogt and an interview with the composer, several autograph pages as well as two concertina-fold inserts featuring photos of the composer and the performers during the recordings.", might have been a clue.

    Who'd a thunk Bandcamp would do a Deutsche Grammophon?
