Randahl Fink @randahl has started a campaign to assist resident journalist @dangillmor in reaching more followers on Mastodon than he had back on Twitter before following his principles and quitting the bird.

He is currently at 33K followers. On Twitter he had 43.5K. Only a little more than 10K to go!

    My plans to study for the Extra exam were set aside for car shopping this week so I didn't even bother taking that test but I did take (and passed) both my Technician and General tests this morning. Now I wait for the FCC to process things so I can get my license.

    I've wanted one of these Xircom Parallel Port Ethernet adapters for a while but they fetch high prices. So imagine my surprise when I found this one in a bin at the local surplus store today for 95¢.

    Our new foster dog had a bad day. You see, she spent her entire four years of life in a cage, making puppies for some greedy assholes in Missouri. She's free now but is still afraid of humans. She's also very uncomfortable because they didn't bother grooming her regularly. All that thick, matted fur not only hurts but it means that poop gets stuck in difficult places when she has accidents like today. I'm afraid I didn't help her opinion of humans when I gave her a bath this afternoon. Luckily, she will get a proper, professional grooming tomorrow.

    Commercial breeders belong in prison.

    I use a bunch of cheap IP cameras with my home security system. I expect them to be security nightmares but I keep them segregated and firewalled. My most recent purchase was clearly designed with malicious intent. Every time the camera is powered up, it disables all connectivity until it phones home to China. If it can't communicate freely with the manufacturer's spy network, it will refuse to work with your NVR.

    Back in the box it goes.
