The @pixelfed app will autoplay videos, with the ability to enable this in the settings 🔥

@dansup would really prefer it didn't. I find autoplaying immensely annoying, and I always turn it off

To help deal with the additional load on pixelfed.social, I made some config changes that will require you to login (on web) again, my apologies!

I'll be closely monitoring the server and in case I need to take more drastic action.

In 1922, Thomas Edison predicted motion pictures would “revolutionize our educational system.”

I can’t get over how Muskian he sounds (particularly on “efficiency” claims) and how — a hundred years later — we still haven’t learned not to fall for this kind of tech boosterism.

@parismarx not only do I not like this boosterism, I actually find reading to be far more efficient. People don't speak as fast as I read, nor am I able to listen to speech that fast if they could. Plus it doesn't matter if there's noise around me that would overpower a video.

I love objects that seem wildly out of place for their time. This antique French snuffbox looks like a teenager's makeup case from the 1980s

@ElleGray that's amazing! It truly does

just realized i've had the mollywhite.net domain for over 10 years(!!)

related sneak peek into an upcoming piece: i firmly believe that if you're going to spend money on one thing online it should be a domain, particularly as online identity gets more fragmented. as platforms come and go, you can always find me there.

@molly0xfff nice! Yeah, I finally got my own domain at the end of last year, and I'm really glad I did it
