Now if only we could get Trump to do the same damn thing.

ramble81 , to politics in Mondaire Jones says it's "progressive to be pro-Israel" as he aims to get back into Congress

Now they’re trying to co-opt the word “progressive”

ramble81 , to A Boring Dystopia in Study: Congress literally doesn’t care what you think. The preferences of the average American appear to have only a miniscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.

And a lot of this comes from not fucking voting. I seriously wonder how things would be if voting was mandatory and everyone was given appropriate time off to do it.

ramble81 , to Asklemmy in What industry secret are you aware of that most people aren't?

I think he was meaning because of how easy it is to spoof and intercept sms. Use some thing like OTP that’s a common standard instead.

I read it and was like “140 isn’t too bad”. Then I noticed it said per day, wtf?!

ramble81 , to United Kingdom in Train passengers face price hikes and fewer seats after HS2 cancellation

Because of course it has…

Offer: high speed rail to connect the north and reduce people’s transit time

Best we can do: price hikes and fewer seats

ramble81 , to News in America’s housing crisis continues to worsen, renters are struggling more than homeowners, report says

Maximum Landing Weight and Maximum Takeoff Weight. Because of the stress put on the airframe when landing you don’t want a heavy plane. It’s easier to control when taking off because it’s smoother. So having the same weight on landing means the airframe will need to be beefed up, or you fly with less overall since more goes to the plane.

Posted this in another chat…

I’ve always been curious how electric planes will address MLW as they scale up. Even if you get similar energy densities and can cover MTOW, you generally count on reducing weight as you use up fuel and are lighter when you land. But with a battery your weight is going to be roughly the same. Will that mean you have to take into account the increased weight and will have less room for cargo/passengers?

No, no it’s not. And if Trump is elected again, it’s on anyone who things as much.

And you end up with the stupid idealist 3rd party voters that think “we’ll send a message with how we vote!” (Or don’t vote) not realizing the true impact they’re causing and the message it sends by having to go back to the center (which inches right more and more each time).

3rd party does have a place, but not right now with how screwed up things are.

ramble81 , to Politics in Elected officials in sweltering US states prioritizing fossil fuel cash over people

It’s pure “fuck you, I got mine” mentality. Most of these people will be long dead before the worst occurs, so they don’t care. Coupled with greed, they never think they have “enough” and will never change their ways in any altruistic manner, so they constantly need more and more. It doesn’t matter what the end state is, they’ll be dead and won’t care.

ramble81 , to News in Disney told L.A. residents to move to Florida for a planned campus. They did, it was canceled and now they're suing

Best we can do is: do it or you lose your job.

ramble81 , to shitposting in "Getting paid more money is for fools"

Yup. It’s called the “welfare (or benefits) cliff”. It tends to happen at the lower end and the. Again at the upper middle end. There are quite a few tax breaks in the US you can’t take once you pass an AGI of $160-175K. Depending on if you were taking them, a raise could technically result in less net income.
