If you’re at all interested in the future of how people could discover, enjoy and pay for great content in the fediverse and broader web, this episode of DotSocial is for you.

Here @johnonolan and I go deep on the product, technical and business model mechanics that will ultimately support a more sustainable web thanks to Ghost’s upcoming full integration of ActivityPub.

If you love the web and were at all depressed by Google I/O, you should listen to this conversation with Molly White on DotSocial. She shares her optimism for the future of the web and explains how ideas like POSSE and decentralized social media are leading to a new era in which human expression is discovered and supported by human connection.

Got my first white supremacist reply from the fediverse after posting an article about Elon from Flipboard.

I reported and blocked the account & instance whose admin is also clearly KKK. That instance will now be blocked on flipboard.com and flipboard.social. It will also be shared with other instance admins for them to take action if they deem appropriate. Took 2 mins to help make the fediverse a bit better tonight.

The cool thing is that anyone can do this too. Decentralized moderation FTW.

In this episode of Dot Social I interview Ryan Barrett, a talented bridge builder focused on connecting people across the open web. Ryan ignited a firestorm of excitement and criticism with his latest project, BridgyFed which connects Mastodon and Bluesky, two communities that share a passion for the open social web but are powered by two different protocols.

The problem with building a closed social network is that it sets up an all or nothing premise for users. They might like some of the signature features but they'll leave if there's not enough people to network with. That's a shame and a huge barrier to innovation and new social products.

mmccue OP ,

The fediverse changes that forever. People can now use the features they like from a mix of apps across a common network of people. This means we can take a whole new approach to how "social" and "media" should work including discovery, user experience and monetization that will be far healthier than anything we've had in the past.

I loved being on Scott's zen, highly informative podcast. Scott has been a long time curator of important insights and is an excellent interviewer. I did my best to explain the fediverse and help people understand the profound implications it could have on everything from journalism to democracy.

Good evening, Tech Threads. Today was a big milestone in our quest to federate and tear down the walls around our own walled garden.

mmccue OP ,

First, we launched a new version of Flipboard for iOS and Android which brings the promise of two way federation to life. Now when a federated Flipboard user curates, people in the fediverse (soon to include threads users!) can reply, favorite, boost or follow those Flipboard users who in turn will see that activity in their usual notifications tab. Even better, Flipboard users can now directly reply to people in the fediverse.
