Name any other form of protest, and it's either not going to command any attention from the media and/or it's been done before without much change happening.

The world is on fire and we've known about the cause of climate change for decades. But it was never politically viable to do anything about it (because politicians only want to do fun things and never any difficult things)

    In a series of posts on Threads, American businessman Dustin Moskovitz debunks Elon Musk's manipulated graph claiming to show exponential growth for the use of Tesla full self driving (FSD).

    Manipulations include, the x-axis dates are deliberately not spaced evenly. And the data does not even show people buying FSD. They show, Elon Musk starting to give away FSD for free to get the graph to rise steeply.

    If one, who has only eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, goes and tries new foods, they would get more enjoyment if they didn’t expect the new foods to taste just like a peanut butter sandwich.

    The (what you refer to as ) is wide and deep. It’s a different experience than / #X and should be experienced as it is without having the Twitter/X lenses applied to it.

    I love it here on the Fediverse. Sure, I don’t have as many followers here as I did on Twitter, but the amount of quality interactions I have had here is so much greater.

    It took a bit for me to build up the network and the relationships — and I continue to — but it has all been worth it.

    There are so many cool and interesting people on the Fediverse that trying to juggle the other two networks you mentioned isn’t even a thought in my mind.

    At the end of the day, tacos (aka The Fediverse) are much tastier than peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (Twitter/X).

    @davidgewirtz @davidhmccoy @mookie Every server has its own community. And some communities are a bit more strict with who they let in than others. I would have called that a “gated community” instead of a “walled garden”. Because, as you may have seen, as soon as you entered the you’re still able to communicate with people from those communities.
    A walled garden would mean that you can’t go outside of your community that you’ve chosen.

    Berkeley Earth, one of the leading global climate analysis centers, has just issued a new report.

    Their forecast is that 2024 will likely finish as the hottest year on record, with only a slight chance of a lower outcome. Expected final range of this year's average worldwide temperatures are from ~1.4C above the pre-industrial baseline to ~1.7C above.

    What are your thoughts on DNF (Did Not Finish)-ing books? Do you feel guilty about it? Do you worry you missed out on something? Or are you confident in dropping a book and reaching for the next one?

    At what point are you most likely to DNF, if ever? What sorts of things cause you to DNF?

    @bookgaga @skaeth @bookstodon Thanks for letting me know of such clubs. Sadly the closest SBC for me is 1.5 hours drive away. But I’ve signed up for an online SBC meet up to see if it’s something for me. 😊
