I'm a policy nerd, studying Italian, trying to grow veggies and learning to be more tolerant and empathetic.

I like tea, libraries, jigsaw puzzles, fridge magnets, cooking, mountains, trains, rescue dogs, history docos and southeast asian islands.

When I grow up I want to be a train driver. Or a librarian. Or maybe a character in a William Gibson novel.

I only boost pics with Alt Text. My posts vanish after three months.

First round of French elections:

Marine Le Pen's party:
33.2 percent

Macron's party:
21 percent

That is 1 out of every 3 French voters, voting for Putin's favorite, who wants France to leave NATO, and keep Ukraine out of the EU.

Mind blowing!

@randahl turnout was 59%, so it's a little under 20% of French voters. It's possible the result will shift if there's a higher turnout in the second round

"The findings suggest the return to office movement has been a poorly-executed failure, but one particular figure stands out - a quarter of executives and a fifth of HR professionals hoped RTO mandates would result in staff leaving."

I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon

@WanderingBeekeeper @Jennifer @bookstodon strong endorsement for the Culture books. Probably the most engaging reading I've experienced

@kimlockhartga @CindySue @bookstodon Google/Wikipedia consider one to be (comedian) and the other to be (author) so I suppose that's what we have to use. Perhaps they should consider the example set by Iain (M.) Banks

Is there any way to block, once and for all, the incessant "Sign in with Google" popups in my desktop browers? Even Ublock Origin seems helpless, and I'm forced to block each one individually.

    1. Go to "My Account" : "Security" ( https://myaccount.google.com/security )
    2. Click on "See all connections" link in "Your connections to third party apps & services"
    3. Click on the gear at the top of the "Third party apps & services" page
    4. Disable the "Signing in with Google" prompt

@vivia @Duke64 @tea @ellestad i think there should be a dating site which only uses people's pet photos. The attractiveness of someone's pet is certainly a big factor in my level of interest in them
