Living in Spain with husband @jpoesen, 3 dogs and 3 cats.

I help people get a (Flemish) high school degree when the regular channels don't work for them.

I love animals (dogs in particular), nature, photography, and science. I'm crazy about books.

I'm a big fan of iNaturalist.

I spend most of my time reading, doing stuff in the garden, watching tv, and looking at plants and bugs.

Totally awestruck by Simon Jimenez' The Vanished Bird.

Such depth. Such compassion. Such imagination. Such beauty.

I wish I could read it again for the first time.

If you like SF and enjoy beautiful language you should try it.

Can you name a film that was adapted not from a novel, but from a short story?
Here's one:

The Illusionist (2006)

Thanks for the interesting question.

I think there are quite a few.

I know of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), which is based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I believe there are also quite a few adaptations of Philip K. Dick stories.

I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon #Bookstodon #Scifi #ScienceFiction

Have you ever had occasion to say "The book made me do it?"

For me it was a trip to Syria 18 years ago.

I read Les jardins de lumière by Amin Maalouf (translated as The Gardens of Light) several times between 1995 and 2005. The story is set in 3rd century Palmyra and I was so intrigued and fascinated by the place that I wanted to see it for myself.

We also ended up with a dog from there ...

During my morning walks I see snails inching their way across the path.

It's not a smart thing for them to be doing. Some veer off course and dry out. Others get crushed by feet, hooves or tyres.

So I pick the up and set them down again in a moist, grassy spot.

Every time I move one I wonder how the snail experiences this sudden acceleration and change in locale.

Image below is of Otala lactea (I think).

    The swallows have arrived.

Every year some barn swallows take up residence in the former, still dilapidated, stables.

It's entertaining to see them come and go and observing the chicks is a treat.

They seemed to be a bit late in coming this year, but they're finally here.

Time to put the poop bucket under the nest.

My name is pronounced like lee with an s.

I'm a hermit living in the Spanish countryside with fellow hermit and husband @jpoesen, 3 dogs, 3 cats, a number of solitary wasps (I don't have the heart to remove their constructions) and a few adventurous snails that spend the summer months attached to our ceilings.

I love all things nature and I'll drop anything (including conversations) to look at an plant or critter. My specific interests vary and I'm eager to learn about anything.

Other things I'm passionate about include
    education, science, reading and photography.

When I'm not outside or working I like to binge watch tv series or play PS4 games.

    I work remotely as a tutor/teacher.

    I try to be kind.
