Threads implements 's _misskey_quote standard and gives them a shutout in the Facebook Engineering blog and then blocks them for "No publicly accessible feed" which is a completely baseless reason for blocking a server.

Discovered this morning that Maven https://heymaven.com (a social media startup who's CEO is ex OpenAI "Ken Stanley: leading the Open-Endedness Team at OpenAI") is mass importing public posts from the with no links back to the original and no way to delete them. It seems there is no Opt-out or Opt-in mechanism at all. It also has posts from pulled in via @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy that are also not linked back to the original.

Anyone have any HS level CS (python or java) project ideas that deal with the Johnson Solids (these are the extended universe fan fic on the Platonic Solids: convex polytopes where every face is a regular polygon— also there are rules to exclude just adding layers of repeated triangles)

Groups are nearly finished, and the app too.

Collections and Portfolio features are getting major overhauls, with federation support.

Speaking of federation support, rumour has it that Pixelfed is working on custom domain support so you can bring your own domain to any Pixelfed instance, allowing you even more control, and a fallback in the event you need to migrate and preserve your handle/identity! 👀

The number of active Mastodon accounts continues to drop, including here on Infosec.exchange, however it’s dropping slower than elsewhere. According to https://fedidb.org/software/mastodon we are the number 4 (soon to be number 3) most active instance. I’m not sure whether to be happy or sad.

@stefan @jerry I wouldn't be so sure of that data either since looking in the top most active list there are entries such as https://fedidb.org/network/instance/test1.042.be which lists 13k monthly active users but is a dummy instance and https://fedidb.org/network/instance/loforo.com which is a not a mastodon instance at all... @dansup we really need to have a moderation team on fedidb. I constantly find inconsistencies there and it should really be a community effort not just all on you...

Cool to see. Should handle the performance issues that have plagued the *key forks and maybe provide a new general branch of fediverse platform.

@dansup you might need to add a warning about the fact that you are using the Bookmark feature as a signal for training anything. There have been lots of articles mentioning how the bookmark and like features "on the fediverse" are private and dont do any training of algorithms. Regardless if thats true it is expected by many

Edit note: The stark silence across multiple sites asking such a simple question, only interrupted by a few people affirming it's a good question, is a good encapsulation of the Fediverse's limits & user-unfriendliness. An important distinction is slowly being uncovered about the definition of the term "fediverse." Who is it that gets to decide what this place is? How are we being represented? These are not easy questions to answer and if we don't do a better job describing ourselves, then the job will get done for us by people who don't understand the underlying values we hold.

The San Fransisco Aviation Museum (known as the SFO Museum / https://sfomuseum.org) has launched a massive initiative to federate their whole archive into the ! They have gone so far as to write their own software in suited to their needs and open sourced it (https://github.com/sfomuseum/go-activitypub). And have already launched thousands of automated accounts that cover different parts of their collection. It looks like @thisisaaronland is behind the project.
