Private equity is particularly ruthless, they are known for running things into the ground and profiting off the failure. When it happens in a hospital, the death rate measurably rises. Capitalism exists in a spectrum of fucked up from the corner store underpaying employees on one end to private equity on the extreme fucked up end. This is not your typical for-profit hospital, this is a newer phenomena, private equity is expanding it's operations.

You know how this is stopped? Good people need to replace those on the board of elections and other positions. This is what Republicans are doing (but with bad people) with great success, while those on the left or opting out, discouraging participation, and guaranteeing loss.

For some reason, half of Lemmy is so confident that waiting (because doing anything more than reading and talking shit on LIBS! doesn't actually occur) for a massive war between the East and West where hundreds of millions die and whole ecosystems are destroyed is easier and more likely to be successful than voting that they won't even cast a ballot.

Imagine thinking, "oh, voting won't work, running for office won't work, sorry my minority "friends", I'm not gonna do something as difficult as grocery shopping for you because I'm certain what's best for you and others like you is to suffer die while I wait for something that's probably not going to happen."

To those who think voting or running for office won't matter, ask yourself why Republicans fight so hard to limit voting and keep people like this candidate out of office?

Those who begrudgingly vote and work to solve problems outside elections the rest of the year are making the wise choice.

I'm not really speaking to those who vote I'm speaking to those who think forfeiting their vote and expecting revolution any day now. Those unwilling to cast a vote in an attempt to protect the vulnerable because they feel entitled to use other's lives to further their goals.

I'm speaking to tankies, ideological puritans that saw the U.S. kool-aid and were not fooled, but then turned around and drank kool-aid from autocrats pretending to be communists.

Someday we'll learn that these types of positions are only ever occupied by sociopaths, psychopaths, sadists, and those full of hate. Then we'll realize that the institutions they are part of were designed by the same type of people. Then hopefully finally we'll realize that every state institution was designed by this same group that believes they know the right way for everything and feel entitled to force their ways on everyone else.

Right, there are many employees of the state with no power, these positions I'd expect are mostly not staffed by dark tetrad types. The DMV though, pretty sure that's staffed by mostly sadists.

I live in reality not fantasy. I cannot control Joe Biden. I can only realize I'm trapped in a situation where either Biden or Trump will be our ruler. On the one hand we have a psychopathic supporter of Palestinian genocide, on the other hand we have a psychopathic supporter of Palestinian, Mexican, Black, Gay, Trans, etc genocide.

A fucking psychopath, what I'm trying to get you to understand, is that the alternatives to Biden are not "not psychopaths".

A) Psychopath A who wants to kill 2 million

B) Psychopath B who wants to kill 200 million

What is the logical choice, there is no realistic choice C -- if you want to change the world, it must be done outside of this system, but since we're trapped in the system, if you ignore it and leave it to the fascists, everything about your existence will become much harder and more risky.

and fuck everyone who keeps trying to tell me we should just try to “understand” how Republicans got to where they are.

One can have compassion for a victim and still recognize their danger and the need to protect oneself from that danger.

I feel that a large number of Republicans are victims of a lifetime of propaganda, and threats. This is important to understand if one is trying to understand the big picture. If literally 1/2 of humans are inherently shit it would benefit the planet if our species went extinct ASAP and that is eco-fascism. The long-term goal needs to be to prevent the those with power and wealth from turning their victims into their idiot army.

When it comes to how to how to treat them on the short-term or individual level, treat them as the mortal danger they are.

I can't say you're wrong, and I've held this perspective personally at times. At some point I realized that I'm trapped in this fucked up situation and taking a hopeful perspective, even if it's not always the most logical allows me to live with less stress.

I feel like things like doomerism, accelerationism, and eco-fascism ultimately help the psychopathic hoarders causing all this trouble.

I feel like solarpunk and anarchism, looking to community rather than stores and government agencies, etc make things harder for them.
