Is NextCloud the only way to have a folder that's accessible over the web for Windows? 🤔

Been wanting to do this without paying extra for a NAS. I have like 10 TB of storage on my windows PC and it'd be quite useful if I can utilize it for backing up my iPhone and Android pics/videos.

Upon troubleshooting a hosting issue, I stumbled upon a rather aggressive bot that was crawling the website - for an AI.

The crawler is Claude and the user-agent:

Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko; compatible; ClaudeBot/1.0; +claudebot@anthropic.com)<br></br>

They use thousands of IP addresses from AWS that don't seem to be unique to this bot; the party responsible doesn't publish a list of IPs. They do however mention that it can be blocked by adding this to robots.txt:

User-agent: ClaudeBot<br></br>Disallow: /<br></br>

Adding: Here is an nginx config for WordPress websites.

@h3artbl33d I’m wondering if robots.txt is the proper place to ensure real protection. I mean, as far as I understood it, robots.txt is used by clients so that they know what they are allowed to do or not. But any one can just ignore it and scrap the data anyway. Or did I miss something?

I’d rather configure the Web server (or reverse proxy) to reply 404 when they recognize shitty User-Agent. Although this is the cat&mouse game…

@h3artbl33d full answer is: I used to have one and used it quite a lot. But I have now switched to a numpad free keyboard because it made the mouse be too far away and lead to wrist enjury.

Now I Am Become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds

Since we have migrated from a server at Hetzner to a server in DC1 - the old machine has to be returned. It didn't use disk encryption - so I am nuking the data into oblivion.

It is overwriting the data with 51 passes. 50 random passes and a finishing pass with zeroes.

Complete and utter overkill - I know - but at least we take the data security of our conferences and everyone involved (including participants) extremely serious.
