@DemocracyMattersALot chief job requirement: excellent gaslighting skills. Because tax cuts for the rich have always given hillbillies a leg up.

Weekend reading: I wrote about the blind spots of the “Biden too old” discourse. What do those who describe Biden as manifestly unfit have to offer in terms of substantive arguments?

A thread, based on the piece below – and some thoughts on the latest intervention by Ezra Klein:

@tzimmer_history I don’t know how to read this as anything other than ageism. The most productive president in recent history is being attacked for being unable to do the job. Look at his record and look at the environment he is operating in. Even on Gaza, I agree his support for Israel has been disastrous, but why is this critique never paired with the power of the Zionist movement in the United States, and the media’s framing of those issues?

@tzimmer_history The large publishers spin the narrative in horse-race fashion and then can’t understand why public opinion backs them up. They want the youthful fantasy of Kennedy or Obama, but never pair this in a self-critical way with their own coverage. They are normalizing the narrative and perplexed by the results. Start addressing the issues!
