Are all laptop SATA cables generic?

I think (hope/pray) that the SATA cable in my laptop is failing. Though when looking on amazon for a replacement all of them imply specificity to single type of laptop ("compatible with "xyz1, xyz2, etc."); however, aren't all SATA connectors generic?...
