My aptitude tests as a kid came back "Analyst" which seemed like a made-up job at the time, but damn if I don't love a good spreadsheet. Currently on sabbatical after 15 years as technical staff in academia.

heat pumps for providing both heat and cooling work exactly the same way (it’s literally just a reversal valve) and discussing them as if they are somehow more complicated new technology sets people up to be price gouged

"migrant crime" is a slur. It's not based on anything factual, statistical or concrete. And none of the people saying it care.

It's a slur. The worst possible response would be to earnestly suggest way to reduce the number of crimes committed by migrants as if this group of people can only be treated like equal humans if every one is perfect. (They have already met the bar of being better. Yet even if they were worse it would still be a slur)

Will democrats keep falling for this?

@futurebird petition to antagonize people who insist on using that language by nodding enthusiastically and exclaiming “oh absolutely, crimes against migrants are much too common and I’m glad you agree. This country was founded on immigrants and we should be ashamed of the amount of wage theft and hate crimes they endure”

I’m really getting in to these comically small thermoses! I didn’t expect them to really keep my little sip of tea hot — but it works surprisingly well. I love to have a hot drink but I can never drink it all and normal vacuum sealed bottles are so awkward and bulky in my bag… Anyone else enjoying this new trend?

This is the perfect way to make a rainy cold bus stop into a pleasant experience. Today’s tea is “liu an” since I’m a little hoarse from teaching.
