I'm having a re-listen of my episodes of The RPG Academy Film Studies. Let's see What we can up with for BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF.

The first suggested system is good old BRP Call of Cthulhu. We thought the movie's mystery would fit right in the Cthulhu Mythos.

1/x

@Rolistespod BRP would be like… one of the worst choices for enacting this movie.

The fact that most players agree that players must adjust their roleplay if the PC has INT <6 but no one says anything about what to do for players whose PC has INT>15 is a huge tell about global ttrpg players ego…

magic-users cast a spell & forget it. Folks like to point at this and say that makes D&D's magic Vancian.

This bugs me for many reasons I don't care to enumerate. I encourage you to read some Jack Vance if want to know more. It's all in books.

While this cast and forget quality is a delightful constraint in Vance's fiction, it's an awkward trope in D&D's pastiche. The latter does not feel like the former. So I'd like to humbly propose a new term for D&D's version: Regexian.

Hear me out!

@epidiah IIRC, that’s the way Nephilim 3rd edition handles magic…

« Our is unburdened by sacred cows of the 70s but you begin level 1 (and probably have 6 stats, a d20, a class…). Also, what our game does well is simulate killing things. The rest is of no interest. »
