Republican politician Geoff Duncan, Georgia, now says he will vote for Joe Biden:

“We have been faking this long enough. Donald Trump is not a Republican. He does not represent our brand, he does not represent our future. He is a horrible human being, and we are watching that play out hour by hour in the courtroom […] It is time to turn the page and move on.”

At long last, the ship is beginning to sink.

@randahl I've under estimated Trump too many times. I'm hopeful that he will be held accountable but I'm not confident

So....there's an instance that has defederated from like 21,000 instances including all the shitty ones and the biggest ones and me.

lol.lamp.wtf

I wonder who they actually federate with🤔🤣🤣

Edit: its a joke instance that's automated and not managed. See: 0 active users

I run a single user server.

Dealing with this annoying AF the right way is killing me.

I have to report the post, select spam. Select (one at a time) each of the 30 other identical posts and then submit and block.

Then I have to navigate to moderation and suspend that account. In itself a 10 - 20 second multi click operation.

I'm getting new spam from unsuspended remote users at least once every 20 minutes.

greg ,
@greg@clar.ke avatar

@pieceofthepie why do you have signups enabled on a single user server?

@pieceofthepie

> I'm getting new spam users at least once every 20 minutes.

This sentence made me think these were spam users joining your server not spam posts from other servers.

Where are you seeing these posts on your server? I haven't noticed any spam posts on my timeline so I just ignored them.

greg ,
@greg@clar.ke avatar

@pieceofthepie ugh, that's annoying. My server is getting loads of these posts but I'm not tagged in them.

There is this patch to block hashtags from your server. Maybe that can help as in interim solution ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I'm hoping I don't start getting tagged, that's brutal.

@BeAware @pieceofthepie Maybe we need to develop a shared S3 service for single user / low user instances

greg ,
@greg@clar.ke avatar

@BeAware @pieceofthepie I'm suggesting a shared service between Mastodon instances that offers S3 storage designed specifically to reduce duplication, downloads from source servers, etc. It would have the same risk of CSAM as individual instances hosting content produced on other servers but with the added benefit of being able to remove CSAM from all instances that are using this shared S3 service once it's identified.

greg ,
@greg@clar.ke avatar

@BeAware @pieceofthepie that's a fair concern. I'd outsource the problem with a tool like CloudFlare's CSAM Scanner. Plus it would be a collective of instances so the collective could decide on how to deal with adding instances, policies, etc.

I updated my instances terms of service to say "no hacking". It was much easier than upgrading. If that doesn't work I'll block the hashtag "" and defederate from hackers.town.
