The Acolyte continues to give me These Characters Are Drama Junkies, at this point extending to almost the whole cast. Which, yes, still vibes Star Wars.

I'm having fun, and the series probably ranks in the top half of Star Wars Things for me so far, though admittedly not high in that half.

@LeviKornelsen I would rank it similarly overall, but would add that the villain is currently my second favorite of any Star Wars villain after this latest episode.

There’s a (probably small but loud) contingent that is upset that the new Pendragon core rules doesn’t have absolutely everything in it. Particularly a bestiary, GM advice, and mass battles.

I’d argue that, while those are nice (and if you really need them grab the PDF/POD older versions), they have provided everything you need to play. If you need an example of what a GM should be doing, there is The Grey Knight adventure.

Go play how you want.

@deinol I can wait for a GM's guide. My problem is that they hired Mike Mearls.

fulminata ,
@fulminata@dice.camp avatar

@deinol My problem with him is how he handled complaints of harassment by sharing those complaints with the alleged harasser.

His involvement in any specific project is less relevant to me than what the decision to hire him says about Chaosium's priorities.

It makes me think twice about getting anything produced by them for now.

@deinol A big part of the problem is that we haven't heard anything from Mearls lately. He never properly apologized to those he harmed, nor did he ever really acknowledge that he'd done anything wrong in the first place. He just posted some legalese boilerplate.

There was a lot of speculation that he was prevented from doing anything more by Hasbro legal at the time, but he no longer works for Hasbro now.

If he wants forgiveness, he needs to step up and ask for it.

    @LeviKornelsen Yes, but only if this is a regular occurrence.

    @epidiah In TTRPGs: Ashen Stars, which is basically post-apocalyptic Star Trek. It still gives that Star Trek feeling even post apocalypse.

    Everything else I can think of right now is actually Star Trek (for example, the official RPG is quite good).

    In the race for "Boringest assholes alive", I've got $50 on "Dudes who are still posting mad about Brie Larson". To place, not to win; the competition IS fierce.

    @LeviKornelsen As much as I agree with the overall sentiment, they have a ways to go before catching up with the guys that are still mad about Jane Fonda...

    @epidiah I empathize with this. I have had dreams of browsing through blisters of Ral Partha and other mini lines of the early to mid eighties that were carried by my first FLGS.

    @epidiah I bought a small number back then, but mostly just browsed. Still have most of what I got back then.

    Once again thinking about the weird stores in which I browsed the latest in back when they were just RPGs. Hobby shops and comic stores, of course, but also drug stores, tobacco shops, Waldenbooks, baseball card shops, etc.

    And all of them had different selections, different preferences.

    @epidiah My very first game was bought at Wal-Mart (back when it was hyphenated). After that it was at Hobby Craft and Frame Mart.

    One of my friends likes to talk about getting his games at a kitchen supply store in a mall.

    I’ve decided I should actually try reading the rest of the Dune books. I tried once before, but bounced off either the 2nd or 3rd. But thinking on it, that was 35 years ago when I was twelve. So maybe it’s time for my adult brain to try it out.

    😅

    @fulminata@dice.camp avatar

    @deinol I made my first attempt at around the same age you did. I made another attempt in my 20s. Both versions of me found it not worth the effort.

    I do not plan on a third attempt. There is too much good fiction out there to waste my reading time on Dune.

    Especially now that I know what a homophobe Frank Herbert was.

    What Napoleonic era inspired TTRPGs are out there?

    I'm aware of Duty & Honor/Beat to Quarters and In Harms Way, but am wondering if there is something "inspired by" the era, and not just a straight emulation of the era.

    Love a where the more adversity you face, the more advantaged you are. Things like experience bad thing, get a benefit point or going harder as you're more injured. [Please note for clarity: I do not like the more common fate point & edge economies where there's negotiation & trade.]

    fulminata ,
    @fulminata@dice.camp avatar

    @thoughtpunks have you seen Technoir? It's the first thing that came to my mind where you get advantage from facing adversity.

    fulminata ,
    @fulminata@dice.camp avatar

    @thoughtpunks You roll dice to apply adjectives, but those adjectives don't "stick" unless you spend "push" dice to make them sticky. Without making them sticky they are easily removed by the target.

    You only get "push" dice from having someone spend a "push" die to make an adjective stick to you.

    So you can't really accomplish your goals without getting hurt first. The idea is to feel "noir" where the protagonist gets beat up before pushing through.

    @thoughtpunks fav retro is West End's original . Relatively simple and consistent rules that capture that action and adventure feel.

    The only RPG of my youth that I can break out without throwing out caveats about how old it is.
