I'm here to hang out and shitpost about queer stuff, and shit if we build a supportive community out of that so much the better.

47-67% of trans people in the US report a history of depression; 56-64% experience loneliness. And this data was collected in 2022, prior to 2023's massive legislative assault on trans people's rights at the state level across the country. This is bad https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/73/wr/mm7324a1.htm

Blackpool South parliamentary by-election, result:

🔴 LAB: 58.9% (+20.6)
🔵 CON: 17.5% (-32.1)
⚪ REF: 16.9% (+10.7)
🟠 LDEM: 2.1% (-1.0)
🟢 GRN: 2.0% (+0.3)

Labour GAIN from Conservative.

Reform nearly beating the Tories into second with 16.9% will mean alarm bells in CCHQ ...

Holy squat, a 30 point drop is crazy.

Takes a Truss and a Sunak to get those kinds of results.

This is one of my favorite columns, absolutely true.

I never ever wanted people to know my name in connection to my job function when I was at a mega corp.

I love Ian Banks' books because he frequently takes the time to imagine a utopia, not as an allegory for why utopias are impossible (and in the extreme sense they are, we all get that, it's not interesting) but rather as an exercise in seeing how close one could get to a society with real freedom and few contradictions.

I think it's a good exercise. OK fine so how would a world without hunger or unwanted suffering work?

He took on the topic of gender in this spirit and it's glorious.

My personal favorite Iain Banks is The Algebraist. Definitely stand alone (not technically a Culture novel), but it will definitely give you a good idea whether you want to dive in for more.
