@CultureDesk @bookstodon I keep most of my books and I have read perhaps 70% of what I have. I presently have an estimated collection of eight thousand volumes. Possibly a great deal more, given the way visitors usually spend at least thirty minutes gaping in wonder at the rarities I have. But when I have to purge (and that time is coming again very soon, sadly), I try to endure that the tomes that didn't make the cut go to people who will actually read these. And I also try to get these in the hands of children and the underprivileged. Have you ever seen a kid's eyes light up when he realizes he can KEEP the book? I have. Many times. It's vital to keep literary culture alive by ensuring that our collections go into the hands of those who will become passionate, of those who will carry on our febrile and committed legacy.

@GottaLaff Yup. And it's why pro-Palestine videos are pushed out of the algorithm. The only reason one of my recent videos on Palestine went viral is because I didn't have a hashtag. The purchase and money-driven censorship of media right now (now with additional pressure with the ) represents one of the gravest threats to democracy and free speech that I've seen in my lifetime.

Despite all the drama, it turns out to be a story that happened 20 years ago - and not in the U.S. but in Mexico. It’s a story that was recounted in Congressional testimony in 2015.

Katie lied when she blamed this on Joe ’s border policies and when she said it happened in the U.S.

@GottaLaff Thanks. I didn't know Katz was on TikTok. He's a great journalist, a good dude (I interviewed him years back), and this is absolutely the right way to use TikTok to break a story.

Just as I have feared, mainstream media has turned into a hideous fascist-enabling hellscape populated by opportunistic and gutless sycophants who bob their heads up and down for alt-right hate merchants and practice both sides bullshit because they fear losing their jobs.

Billy Wilder's savage satire ACE IN THE HOLE now plays like a sunny Frank Capra movie.

This is where we are at RIGHT NOW and we still have nine months to go until the election. To those like @GottaLaff and @dangillmor who continue to speak out against this horrorshow, thank you. But it's clear that we need a hell of a lot more of you willing to call out the Lorenzs and the Habermans.

The incessant grilling of Fani Willis (who handled herself like a boss), taken with ancillary attacks on Tish James, is a reminder that Black women are held to a ridiculous standard of perfection that white people will simply never be subjected to. Black women in power are needlessly feared by atavistic CHUDs who will never rise to the occasion and who will remain forever terrified that their own inherent mediocrity will be exposed.

Wah Chang probably influenced tech design far more than anyone else in the 20th century by way of designing the future! He designed the communicator (picked up by Martin Cooper for the flip phone) and the tricorder for STAR TREK (which influenced touchscreen and PalmPilot design). He also created the tribbles, the Gorn, the Vulcan lute played by Spock (which also had people create instruments), and also designed the Romulan Bird of Prey. (He didn't design the phaser. That was Matt Jefferies.)

Stomach flu, food poisoning. The Polish woman is taking care of me, bless her, but I haven't thrown up like this in at least ten years. Everything I eat -- even a forkful of rice -- doesn't stay down, cautious hydration,chills, endless twenty minute naps, lack of focus. Be careful out there, folks. You really don't want to get this stomach flu making the rounds. It's murderous.
