Not a coincidence public archives are disappearing at the same time unpolluted training data for LLMs & other content generation systems have become valuable. (even as we are told they have no value, so no one should get paid)

This is very ugly and we need to have a real conversation about preserving human history, expanding and archiving the body of human knowledge, attribution, and royalties.

Our leadership is too craven and not educated enough in these matters to do it.

@futurebird in 2010, Nicaragua wanted to reclaim an island that was from Costa Rica because the limits were different in Google Maps than in the treary of limits between those countries. The dispute lasted 5 years and was finally solved in favor of Costa Rica in an international court. Corporations shouldn't define country limits or what is part of history.

Well now I can finally share - I just started my first day as a federal scientist at NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory.

I'll be continuing research on improving our understanding of climate prediction and projection, especially with data-driven approaches for high-impact extremes.

So I spent longer than expected working on the privacy settings in the new @pixelfed app

I don't regret it, we have some pretty awesome privacy features!

Looking forward to shipping the new mobile app, and working with artists, creatives and photogs to make our platform better for everyone.

Just finished adding like, reply, and report features to comments in the new Pixelfed app!

I’m proud of the progress I’m making, just a few lil things to wrap up before it’s ready for the beta release 😁

(Then I can get back to Groups, Loops, PubKit and Sup)

    What are your thoughts on DNF (Did Not Finish)-ing books? Do you feel guilty about it? Do you worry you missed out on something? Or are you confident in dropping a book and reaching for the next one?

    At what point are you most likely to DNF, if ever? What sorts of things cause you to DNF?

    @skaeth @bookstodon I usually read several books at the time (for example one of poetry and a novel, or non fiction and short stories) so I don't mind when one of the two or three become my favorite. However, sometimes stories take a turn that doesn't interest me or change the rhythm. I usually try to get hooked again two or three times and if it doesn't work, I leave it.
