The server mastodon.social is currently down due to technical problems at their hosting provider. However, other servers on Mastodon and the Fediverse are working fine because they are totally independent.

This is one of the many advantages of a decentralised network, one server going down doesn't affect the others. There are also other even more important reasons why this place is spread out on lots of servers:

@FediTips Is the procedure similar when I want to stay on the same server (e.g. to alter the handle), or is there another (simpler?) way to do this?

I may soon be collaborating with Wiki to help my students create articles on . Does anyone have any advice about how best to do this? (I will get lots of support but would be interested to hear individual opinions too!).
