So far we've federated 450 #Flipboard accounts which have now received more than 100,000 likes, boosts, replies and follows from people in the #fediverse. Today we are federating another 100 people who are curating terrific magazines that people in the fediverse can now enjoy.

So...now that BridgyFed is live, how about if those who don't want an open platform (like we currently have) block the bot. Then after a reasonable enough time (a month?) We make it opt-out like the rest of the platform?

I'm still SO confused by the fact that a lot of you want a closed platform, while being on an open one, yet here we are.

What say you? Can we ACTUALLY get back to the goal of this platform? to be open and allow those on other platforms to follow and interact with us freely? Or are we still wanting our "open walled garden" concept?

ActivityPub is built on being an open platform for engagement across social networks. However, what we have here with BridgyFed, does not build on that goal, because you all asked it not to.😔

What I find odd is people said quote posts and full text search led to bad behaviour yet #Mastodon still was a bad place for many without it. Also, the majority of fedi platforms have full text search & quote posts yet I haven’t heard of this terrible behaviour due to them. #fediverse

In order for the open social web to happen at scale, lots of companies and apps, big and small, need to adopt #ActivityPub. Threads is the largest player so far to do this and the implications are huge.

Why is #Threads doing this? Is federation just another feature or is it foundational to their entire experience? How is the Threads team thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward?

A fair amount of the time the #fediverse disappoints and disgusts me. I’ve seen several of you use the term rpe vibes when a dev has built tools that you believe violates consent. There’s a complete lack of respect and regard for actual victims. There’s other forms of violations of consent outside of rpe. For that to be many of your go-to especially over f*cking technology is very concerning & telling

Please stop with the #quoteposts are toxic and make social media worse. #Mastodon already has a negative reputation between the harassers, gatekeepers, reply-guys, racists etc There’s other #Fediverse platforms that have quotes and full text search, the fedi was none the worse for it. The real abuse vector is primate mention (pm) yet I have not seen anyone advocating for their removal. Mastodon is significantly worse for having them.

For the strong believers in consent #fedi instead of harassment, threats and outrage and attempting to bully devs why not use a platform that actually provides #privacy #permissions #security ? You want to use #Mastodon and create these social pressures as opposed to truly protecting yourself. There’s a way to do it without helping feed the negative reputation of Mastodon and making this place appear hostile. To me integrity is huge and I view talk as cheap. If you are going out of your way to loudly talk about #Threads and how horrible #Meta is then go all of the way. Scolding people and pushing people to block Threads is cheap if you’re not willing to block those federating with Threads. I see people attempting to harass Eugen for his instances federating with Threads and tell him he aligning himself with a company guilty of genocide. Why not block him & others for being guilty by association? Many of the loud ones won’t because they can’t get over the slight discomfort & inconvenience of cutting off large parts of the networks. Personally, I find it hard to respect such opinions. When people protest it’s for change and they don’t back out due to discomfort and inconveniences. To be clear, my focus isn’t on those simply making the choice to defederate or not, it’s those being very forceful and vocal on either side of the fence. #Mastodon #Fediverse #OpenSocialWeb

I can't wait to not be effected AT ALL by whatever Meta decides to do with Threads Federation...

It just won't effect me or the way I use Fedi one bit.

Let them adopt Fedi features and then turn off federation....who cares? It'll be their loss...🤷‍♂️I'll federate till they give me a reason not to. And when they do, it won't bother nor effect me in any way.

That's the beauty of Fedi. Them federating or not changes nothing about how I use Fedi.

Making many of you aware as I’m disgusted and sick of the disinformation and misinformation on fedi. Many of you are liars and don’t mind being liars. If I see you spreading disinformation even upon being corrected I am #Fediblock will add to blocklists and add receipts. To anyone looking for a minimalistic Threads-like Mastodon app for iOS, @Threaded is pretty good!

They're in TestFlight right now and I'm sure they'll be working on it for a bit before releasing it.

A bit TOO minimalistic for me personally because I'm already used to the "feature packed" @IceCubesApp, but if you don't mind a feature lite app, Threaded is definitely worth a look!

Looks like the active spam situation on the Fediverse is mostly resolved, although the cost of taking over a few open-to-join Mastodon servers and standing up a few fake ActivityPub instances into existence while you're a hacker living off the land are both basically free so we'll see what happens in the next few weeks. Either way it'll be fun to see how individuals and the network as a whole handle this new (everything new is old again) paradigm.

Cool! Aaand we're back! 🥳

I'm still in the process of putting things together - namely: implementing the Oliphant T0 blocklist, writing out our policies and Terms of Service, and tweaking everything to our liking.

We decided to go with #Akkoma for We Distribute Social. It's powerful, reliable, and carries on some great ideas from #Pleroma while adding in great ideas like Bubbles.

Anyway, please keep an ear out, as things will be developing fairly quickly!
