Is there a neat way of automatically posting to mastodon from an RSS feed? Even better if it includes the native 'featured' image rather than the thumbnail generated by a link.
(The Wordpress ActivityPub plugin basically does exactly what I want, but my RSS is on Ghost, not Wordpress.)
I tried IFTT, but that only works with the mastodon.social instance, and doesn't include the image natively.
I'm also familiar with @birb but I want posts here at @blag not in another feed.
Is it that #Mastodon is very unpredictable in terms of the responses one gets to toots (likes, responses, reposts). Mine vary with each toot, so either we're all on a variable reinforcement schedule or I don't know how to Mastodon properly🤔
Hey Fedi, can you send me all your experiences with the "please no politics in my software" bullshit?
It often happens in tech communities but what I find most infuriating is when it happens in #freesoftware
communities because technology is political. free software is especially political.
Feel free to DM to vent about it. If you reply publicly, please use CWs as necessary. I will ask if I want to use your experience in the post.
While you can already use the @pixelfed API to syndicate to your Pixelfed account from your own blog
Wouldn't it be cool if you could syndicate from Pixelfed to your own server or even 3rd party service using webhooks and param placeholders so you can build the perfect webhook (example.org/api/webhook?caption=$caption&image_url=$mediaUrl) where $caption and $mediaUrl are populated by the backend
This is something I will pursue if there is interest!
Is there a decent desktop/browser app for mastodon with a scheduled posts function?
I'm on a PC with Windows 11/Firefox and have two mastodon accounts. It would be nice to be able to access both accounts with the same app, as I currently do with @moshidon on mobile.
What do you do when you have reached a ‘reading block’? I have a small primer to read and have no motivation whatsoever to complete it. I must add that I have also just finished a seven hundred odd page philosophy book.
Been reading r/worldnews for a decade now and lately it has been really revealing what a propaganda machine it has become. Just got perma banned for pointing out that "legal war targets aren't necessarily ethically correct"
With Artifact gone, reddit basically gone - what other sources do you use for #geopolitics?
You would not believe the struggles I've had sourcing footwear. For five years now, I have been completely unable to find a shoe that satisfies all three of:
Fits me and is comfortable to wear and put on;
Doesn't break within weeks (including not just aesthetic damage but breakage in the sole letting water in, which is both uncomfortable – I've had to buy waterproof socks – and makes the shoe stink and therefore unusable long-term);
Is of even a broadly acceptable style.
Ordinarily, "get an artisan to make you one" is not a helpful or considerate answer to the question of how to acquire something, but in this case I'm desperate. Hence, this #AskFedi, where I'm seeking a shoemaker in the South East of England who I can commission to tailor me a pair of shoes.
I'm willing to pay a fair bit of money (but not huge prices), because I can't afford to keep replacing shoes that are functional for maybe a whole fortnight if I'm lucky, or taking a punt on the latest shit that Long Tall Sally assures me will actually fit on my feet at all this time.
