Fact Check on the Daily Mail: No, A New Study Does Not Show “Being Trans Is Just A Phase”

More to the point, we know conclusively that being obsessed with anti-trans ideation is definitely not just a phase. British media has been obsessed with finding ways to put trans people down for as long as I can remember.

Please help protect trans people’s right to safety. Please donate to help Good Law Project to defend the rights to safety that my colleagues and I worked to create and have enjoyed for twenty years. There is a really serious attempt to strip that protection away and I’m frankly too old to fight again.

    Are the Tories considering an October election, because new students would have been unable to register in their new constituencies (due to relocating for university)?

    Given the likelihood that this generation would not vote for them, it may be a move (like the skewed voter ID policy) to disenfranchise young opponents.

    On one hand it seems like a conspiracy theory, but on the other I'd put nothing beyond a desperate Tory party right now.

    @ChrisMayLA6 I’ve always thought it was better for students to apply for a postal vote back home, especially as you might be moving about a bit from halls to private rented accommodation over the three years and just beyond in a first job. Your parents can then just forward the papers to your current address.

    I’m intrigued that Gove needed to explain today that his extremism diktat doesn’t apply to gender critical groups (many of whose members signed a declaration which amounts to a call for the elimination of people like me). What that tells us is that GC beliefs are feared to be so close to being caught by the definition of extremist that it has to be spelled out that they’re officially not thought to be. It’s like being rude, not racist apparently. Eliminating trans people is just rude I guess.

    The Tories have polled their lowest ever support.

    Could it be that, the longer they cling on, the more everyone resents them doing so and depriving the country of the opportunity to make another start?

    Reading this has got me wondering how many other exclusionist staff groups the Guardian and Observer tacitly allows at HQ and where they might decide to draw the line.

    So in the last few days we’ve seen a moon lander that landed upside down followed by a lander that tripped over its legs and landed on its side. I appreciate the achievement in not simply making two fresh craters but I don’t think we should get the bunting out until moon landers start reliably landing the right way up, like they did in my day. There is a right way up for a reason.

    Dear corporate media: Please stop calling Trump's criminal case in NY where he's facing 34 felonies the "hush money" case. As Manhattan DA Bragg says this is an ELECTION CORRUPTION case. Trump committed crimes to conceal vital info from voters. My article https://deanobeidallah.substack.com/p/trumps-ny-criminal-case-is-not-about

    @christineburns@mastodon.green avatar

    @DeanObeidallah These are the crimes which his former lawyer went to prison for, where it was obvious that Trump was ‘Individual 1’ on the indictment. So, the fact crimes took place is beyond dispute.

    At 7.11pm on Tuesday 25th May 2004 the House of Commons passed the Gender Recognition Bill by 355 votes to 46. That was with the Conservatives opposition having a free vote. The votes against were mainly the DUP and a scattering of evangelicals and (mainly) closet Catholics. We attributed the extent of our success at the time to making trans people human in most MPs’ eyes. The Leader of the Opposition, Michael Howard (no ‘woke liberal’) would even cross the road to say hello. What happened, eh?

    My recall of that day — of moments that still overwhelm me — made a fitting foreword to Volume 2 of Pressing Matters, which deals with how we got there.

    Seeing this 1982 ad for the first IBM PC reminds me of how I came to buy one for the company i worked for. At the time, 42 years ago, I was the Technical Manager for a newly minted systems house, created by a big commodities broker in the City of London. The Managing Director wanted me to review the IBM without delay so, after a swift call to a (very rare) computer shop just off Covent Garden to determine the price, I was bundled into a taxi clutching a company cheque. The shop, slightly…

    Yesterday, taking advantage of dry and mild conditions, I replenished the feeders in my back garden, raked up the leaves that had fallen in November and trimmed down the dried stalks of died-back plants. As I was doing this I heard the bird calls go up and realised I was being observed. I swear they were passing the news. I made sure to leave leaves and dried grasses/stalks behind so that, as soon as I went inside, the local feathered population descended for food and nest repairs.
