I’m making this incredible master sword from and I need some advice on how to finish it! My plan is:

  1. sand
  2. fill in any gaps btwn multipart pieces with wood filler
  3. sand
  4. spray with sandable primer
  5. sand
  6. paint… with spray paint?
  7. …. Assemble? What about the parts that fit together with tight tolerances? Will the added paint make it impossible to assemble?
  8. what coating do I finish with to make the hilt a comfortable texture to hold?

Advice appreciated!

@boda this seems to be a pretty standard succession of operations, it's certainly similar to what Kamui Cosplay or Bill Doran would do, and that's a good sign. (Both of them Cosplay related YouTubers that I can recommend)

Paging experts.

I have several ePaper displays powered by Pi Zeros, running custom projects.

Ideally if the SD card goes (which has happened) I’d like to have a backup that I can load onto a fresh SD card and slip that into the Pi and have everything back up and running.

What’s the best way to backup these SD cards? Make an image of it? Can I save an image of the card in a file on my hard drive? Can I do this remotely or do I have to pull the card out? What tool do I use?

I’ve been meaning to make this for a while: a calendar that shows the schedule of all the teams I like to watch.

I often find myself wanting to put a game on in the background while I’m working in my shop, but with all the different streaming services it’s hard to see what’s on! There are apps for this, but I don’t want to have to pull out my phone and, notably, the is too new to appear on any of those apps.

Finding the schedule data was the hardest part, I’ll explain…

I’m still making improvements to my epaper sports calendar!

I created a minimalistic-style stand for the bare display that shows the entire screen, printed on my .

If it works well I might submit it to the project, these displays are a weird size that defies cheap frames.

Currently printing out the next iteration as I type this. The part on the left side will go all the way to the top of the screen, so it hopefully looks a little more seamless.

The same set up but from the rear. You can see the shiny back of the glass display, plus the electronic hardware. There’s a ribbon coming out of the display and a Pi Zero with an epaper HAT on it on the back.
This is the plastic printed part without the epaper screen or the electronic hardware. It shows an indent where the screen’s ribbon cable is kept, as well as a supporting piece to hold the raspberry pi

My final (for now) set up for the . Feeling pretty good with how this looks! I uploaded the file to printables so others with a 7.5" screen can use it.

I think now I'm going to focus on adding some features to the Inkycal project. First adding the ability for the events to spill onto two lines so I can increase the font size. Second, I want a more compact layout; have the times moved to the left under the date so as not to waste white space.
