Here folks - what are your favourite tier 3 adventures?

RPG tip: Mash up multiple encounters into one big fun complicated scene.

@slyflourish I have done this, but boy was it a headache to DM in its complexity.

I was asked to paint a Beholder as a gift - only this one loves Baldur’s Gate, reading, snacks and late-night series binging 😄

@artofrengin really beautiful work.

We need to stop talking about “AI taking jobs.” AI has no autonomous agency or predetermined destiny in this regard. It masks the true story that corporate leaders who see employees as a cost rather than an asset think they’ll make more money for themselves and shareholders by replacing them with machines. It’s an old story.

Wow. Zoom's pricing page shows what happens when platforms become feature-driven rather than focusing on clarity and customer needs. It's a bloated, complicated array of competing and confusing propositions with questionable value: https://zoom.us/pricing

Does anyone ever feel weird about posting their art?

Lately I've been doing almost only client work and only bits and pieces of personal work, and posting comms always feels a bit odd because the pieces feel so detached from what I normally do. :bunhdthinking:

@doomofthedesert I used to post it more on Xitter, but haven't here. Mostly because I haven't made any for ages, but there are no rules. Post what you feel you'd like to. I know a few folks who do and it's not their day job.

Wow. Routledge aren't even trying to hide what the deal actually is when you “buy" an e-book. It's a feature.

I fancy myself a fairly intelligent person with a large vocabulary and no fear of the abstract, so why is my reaction to reading a cultural studies essay to mentally scream, "SPEAK 🤬ING ENGLISH!"?

apolaine ,
@apolaine@pkm.social avatar

@KeithAmmann yeah, I had to wade through loads of theory damage papers and theses in the new media arts scene. They all got wound up by Foucault et al and decided they needed to invent new words to escape the power of old words. But it’s just like that XKCD standards joke.

Also, they were mostly trying to dress up a simple idea as something smart. Whereas actually smart people can explain something complex simply.

Just finished listening to @pluralistic reading his book The Internet Con. it’s very good. Should be mandatory reading in school and higher education.

And now ai really want the tech industry to take a 10 year sabbatical.

Or just f***k right off.

Took a while to arrive, but I’m happy that I ordered the physical version too @slyflourish. It’s nice to sit and browse, even though I’ll like use the PDF while DMing.

Edit to tag @Alphastream and @scottfgray too.

    @LeviKornelsen I’ve used Reeder or iOS for years and years. NetNewsWire on MacOS is a good desktop one. I have it all synced via Feedbin.

    I need your help #bookstodon. One of the classes I'm taking at the graduate level this semester is Religion & Science Fiction. I read more fantasy, and would like to do my research paper on something that's not obvious (like ST/BS5/Matrix/etc.) & I'd love to use more modern sf rather than the golden age classics.

    Anyone have any interesting ideas for my research paper on regarding the intersection of religion and science fiction?

    @KitMuse @bookstodon +1 for the Gideon the Ninth series. It’s in the centre of the Venn diagram of what you’re after.

    tip: When things get complicated in the story, add another complication.

    @slyflourish can you expand on that one? It feels very counterintuitive. I generally try to tie threads together if that’s happening.
