BNSF Railway must pay nearly $400 million to the Swinomish Tribe in Washington state, a federal judge ordered Monday after finding that the company intentionally trespassed when it repeatedly ran 100-car trains carrying crude oil across the tribe’s reservation.

The route crosses sensitive marine ecosystems along the coast, over water that connects with the Salish Sea, where the tribe has treaty-protected rights to fish.

With tornadoes and softball sized hail on the way, The Muscogee Nation Center for Victim Services hosted the MMIP Honor Walk on Monday, May 6.

This event allows our community to honor, remember and raise awareness for our Missing and Murdered Indigenous People not only within the Muscogee Nation Reservation but throughout Indian Country.

There are two common spellings of the river's name, Sol Duc and Soleduck. Before 1992 the accepted spelling was "Soleduck". In 1992 the spelling was officially changed to "Sol Duc" by the State of Washington Board on Geographic Names. The name comes from its Quileute name, /só:liɬt'aqʷ/, meaning "sparkling waters".

Things I learned from homelessness activism

A lot of it is all about the activists/organizers. It's all about them not the cause. It's very performative and the cause is merely a means to an end.

The majority are like this, but not all of course. The stories I could tell you.

Protest organizations with multi-million dollar budgets that wouldn't buy a malnourished unhoused person a sandwich doing their best to displace people in the trenches actually feeding and housing people.

    The crow was once very colorful and had a beautiful singing voice, but during a forest fire, it spent so much time trying to help the other animals that it's colorful feathers became blackened with soot and it's beautiful singing voice turned hoarse from the smoke

    To Ryan, the story reflects the struggles and sacrifices they have made as a Two Spirit person to get to where they are today, and all they have worked through to get to a place where they want to teach others

Some Tribes do not go outside and are taught to practice stillness and to be reverent, like the Navajo and Muscogee Creek. A solar eclipse can be a time of prayer and ceremony as the Hopi and Shoshone people believe. Other tribes, like the Cherokee, make loud noises during the eclipse. Some tribes believe the eclipse is a time of rebirth, renewal and transformation. Here are some things to remember when working with your Native American students during the Eclipse: • Communicate with parents and guardians about what your school has planned for the Solar Eclipse so that families and students can make decisions about their involvement. • Provide an alternative, positive, and fun activity for your Native American students whose traditional beliefs are not in line with your school's Solar Eclipse activities. • Allow an excused absence if a Native American student chooses to remain home on this day due to traditional Tribal beliefs. • Use this time to practice diversity and inclusion and to learn about what other cultures believe about the solar eclipse.     This snow is a doozy to shovel but everywhere the moved snow forms crevices, it seems to emit its own blue light.

    Another deep crevice of snow with blue light. The parts of the crevice that are closer to the top surface are a pale blue, while the ones that are deeper down are a darker blue.
