Clancy Brown was way more impactfull then Lambert.

The amount of Highlander quotes you still hear to this day are mostly those of The kurgan.

Connery and Brown carried that movie. Lambert just went along for the ride.

The way how Clancy just spits out these one liners, in that growling voice. It's bloody fantastic. Cavill as mcloud is good and all, but it's all about who they cast for the Kurgan and Ramirez. And that they don't fuck the story up too much.

That doesn't mean your interpreting it all correctly. We not just accelerated it, we where strolling along the path of planetary heating and then decided to step aboard the Starship Enterprise and screamed: "MR SULU WARP FACTOR NINE, STAT!"

We're fucking with systems (planetary weather patterns) we can't comprehend. And to solve it we again fuck with that system but now not by adding energy (heat) but by removing energy from it (wind, radiation)

I think both will have issues. But for now removing lots and lots of energy from the system will greatly benefit us.

In the end it will always come down to population control or going interplanetary as a species.

More people on this planet, in this system will always mean more heat. Remove the excess from the system and it will find its equilibrium again.

But.. Removing the excess sounds nice but isn't. Especially when you are deemed to be the excessive one.

It's been around a year since a lot of us quit Reddit, myself included. I'm happy with Lemmy, but I still feel a bit lost online since leaving the old site. Discussion?

Been thinking of making a post like this for some time, apologies if some of this is not completely relevant: this community seems more like it's about Reddit the platform/product than Reddit the social "thing", but I'm sure a lot of people have similar experiences to mine. Maybe on some instances more than others....

The discussions here always are the same, very leftist. There is only one side. Memes here are always overdone. Comics are always politicized. Everything is "eat the rich", lhgtbq cant do anything wrong and lets not forget: fuck the police. Eating the rich has been tried before guys, several times. It didn't work. People need leaders and these leaders will always benefit from it. Learn history before you try to make it. Or is it just jealousy?

Just because youre lhgtbq does not automatically mean you're right or have been wronged. Surely your identity is very important. As is mine. lets find some middle ground, ok?

Police does fuck up, a lot. Do you have a solution instead of "all cops are evil" or is that just a catchy easy thing to say? And that brings me to the next one:

The depth in discussion and the amount of objective (news) subjects here is lacking. Views are often shallow and if they aren't they are cast in stone. Lemmy is unfortunately not usable for sharing and consuming knowledge. The depth isn't there, the communities too small and it always devolves into you're wrong because i say so. Or, if its IT, the knowledge just isn't there or worse: people are not willing to share it, adding a you f-ing MS simp because why not. And that brings me, again, to the next:

It's also often a lot less cordial. Instead of discussing the "room" gets divided in friends and enemies. Name calling is normal. Its a lot darker here.

Most of the times I don't even check responses on my comments : I know what they say. Yeah buddy, fuck you too.

Anyway, its fine. I use it daily. The use case isn't the same though. And the experience is very different.

I wouldn't be here without Sync by the way. Without (stuff like) Sync the hassle would just not be worth it.

    Yes, older people have views from the past. That's because they are older people. Yes, older people bitch and whine. That's because friends and spouses are dead by now, they feel alone and forgotten. Yes, older people are not always nice. That's because things you don't even think about, like putting on clean socks or taking a shit by yourself have become hard, for some even impossible to do on their own and/or without pain leaving them with a feeling of loss and even regret for living that long.

    I think it all revolves around your alcohol abuse. Starting the day with wodka is never a good idea. And you being 18 at the time does not make it better.

    Realism should tell you that not your person made her do this but your addiction/alcohol abuse and your depression.

    You probably said some things due to that combination which were awkward or maybe even scary. Or, which is also a thing, your "state" made her anxious and a little bit scared. Quite possibly both. You said strange things and she thought you scarey looking.

    So far so good. I can rationalise that all since im no part of it all.

    Now comes the assholes part: your school, everyone there , were assholes for making you sign that. It was stupid, it was kicking someone when their down. You needed help, not restrictions.

    You needed a talk, no "contract". Like: Yo, this girl is a little bit scared of you and prefers not to talk to you anymore. She is afraid to tell you this in person so I'm doing my job as a school official. So back off from her and frankly: you need help. Lets talk about that. Etc.

    That's what shouldve happened.

    That would be brutal but honest and such is life.

    This? This was the easy way out.

    Continue existing? Of course. Living is learning and you learned from this since you've sobered up. You're great for accomplishing that. A lot of people can't do that!

    Healthy relationship: start with "just" relationships. Find out what interest you and get together with other like minded people. Just be you but always be clean and neat. People tend to stick with the first impression they get of someone. Being, what's the English word, groomed? Is a big part of that. Healthy will come, just you wait. :)

    How, why: she was scared, plain and simple. She didn't dare to tell you no because she was afraid of what might happen. Account it to "shit happens", learn from it and move on. Moving on from a crush is hard, yes. But you must. It's been 6 years. A lot has happened in that time, no?

    In the 90s campus to me was like a small city that was self-sufficient in a lot of ways. The school provided its own services in-house. A prof also told me he would teach us what industry is doing wrong so we can correct it -- that academia was ahead of industry. The school chose the best tools and languages for teaching, not...

    It's appification. People want an app. And easy. Things like imap, smtp, pop, certificates etc are hard, too hard for most.

    And email, done right (safe, no spam, secure, private) is one of the hardest things to do. It's not easy.

    And because it's not easy you see everybody moving to cloud for email.

    Do you have a point? Oh yes. But can you, do you want to explain setting up thunderbird to the median college goer? Can you do that 50 times a day? (yes, click imap, no change the port to the secure one, what a port is? Dont worry, just change the number, oh you typed imapp.Server.edu, no that should be imap, one p. No, not b: p. Yes.     That's why the cloud email services are everywhere. Email and users just dont mix well.

    I'm about to sound like the ignorant American I am, so I apologize in advance! We're looking at a trip to Germany, and possibly Prague, and we've noticed that a lot of the hotel names are French and a couple hotels that aren't named in French have replied to comments with things like "Bonjour! etc etc" What's up with this?     East of Munich you're best bet is German, but English is also spoken widely. West of Munich you're more or less fine with English. In the northern countries we are used to the fact no one speaks our language so we all speak English, a lot of people French and a lot of German because it's close to our own.

    Italians try English. As do most Spanish. Try is the magic word here, it's like your Spanish after high school or my French. :)

    French don't try. They speak French. Period. In hotels etc. (tourist spots) English is spoken by few employees. But they are there. :)

    In the balkans the situation is mixed. Some parts English, some German, some French, some Russian. I get by with an English/German mix in Croatia. my German is better then my French... But not a lot). Here in the Netherlands my level of German is widely called "steenkolen Duits" (coal German) because it's course, harsh, hard and dirty)
