What's an overlooked US or Canadian midsize city that would make a great location setting for a neo-noir urban horror game?

Bonus: If the region is especially good for small towns and rural/wild areas for variety.

@thoughtpunks Some cities that might fit the bill...
Portland, ME
Roanoke, VA
Syracuse, NY
Boise, ID
Ann Arbor, MI
Lexington, KY
Flagstaff, AZ
Waco, TX
Erie, PA
Anacortes, WA

@thoughtpunks I was in Syracuse earlier today!

@thoughtpunks I live in Ithaca, NY. Syracuse is the nearest mid-sized city, so I get up there pretty often. Syracuse is also home to the nearest commercial airport that has more than one flight a day... which is why I was there on Sunday morning. Syracuse has a great local theater company, and also has a bunch of nice restaurants! And it's host to the New York State Fair.

You wake up trapped as an average starting PC in the last you played. How screwed are you?

@thoughtpunks If I woke up as an average starting PC in the last game I played... I would not be particularly screwed. I'd be an older, retired super-hero who's just trying to live a normal life but keeps getting pulled back into "Cape Life." So... I'd be roughly the age I am now, with a normal job of some sort... but I'd have superpowers!!

(The game is "Ex-Capes," an in-playtest PbtA game that uses the "Carved From Brindlewood" emergent mystery system. Written by Jim Crocker.)

@epidiah Honestly, I'd pay that and more!

And that's from someone who already has Issue #3 of Worlds Without Master...

@LeviKornelsen That's millennia-old technology, but does not work well at all if the ambient air has more than 40% relative humidity.

What should the base mathematical success rate (expressed as a percentage) be for a task defined by a rule system as "Medium" difficulty?

    MikeFerdinando ,
    @MikeFerdinando@dice.camp avatar

@Tim_Eagon That's pretty much impossible to say without knowing more about the game you're talking about and the base assumptions about how competent the PCs are going to be. It also depends if the game is concerned with task resolution vs. outcome resolution.

Regardless: If failure at the task isn't interesting to the narrative, don't engage the game mechanics at all: The PC just does it. You then move on to something interesting.

@LeviKornelsen I think you can take the "very likely" out of your statement.

    OSR folks:

Judge's Guild decided the right way to post about the death of Jennell Jaquays was by deadnaming her throughout in their Facebook post.

This got them a bunch of yelling-at, during which they doubled down that this was somehow neutral practice, and then it vanished, possibly deleted, possibly reported into oblivion.

So, like, if they weren't already on your asshole list, mark 'em on down.

@LeviKornelsen The current iteration of Judge's Guild is a steaming pile of racist, sexist, homophobic, alt-right assholes. It's shameful that the legacy (and publishing rights) of that storied publishing house from the early days of the hobby landed with such reprehensible people.
