Might have been us, actually. The sunshine is blasting the haze away, and 28 seems like a very conservative estimate for max temp in Madrid.

Spare a thought for the poor schoolteachers who just led a couple of gaggles of primary-school kids past here, presumably en route to a museum.

What internet would that be, exactly?

It certainly wasn't any internet I've been on, and I've been around since the 1990s.

This "nostalgia for the 'heyday of the internet'" almost always seems to be rooted in these rose-colored glasses about how things were.

I won't argue about whether things are better or worse overall, but this idea that the internet was somehow nicer is weird to me.

I’ve been putting off making this post because it’s not what I wanted to report and I’m disappointed. A few weeks back my Dorymyrmex bureni colony showed tantalizing signs of a miraculous recovery from the loss of their queen. I love this colony, I wanted it to be true— (Antdrew on formiculture.com tried to warn me not to be too optimistic: Just because female workers continued to emerge weeks after the queen died did not guarantee the new queen were fertile.) He was right.

so. in January I was in a bad car accident. fractured spine, ruptured discs, cracked pelvis, broken arm. last 4 months have been v hard. tonight though I'm going back to my adult dance class for the first time. I wasn't sure I'd ever even walk properly again so this is a moment for me. a good one

@jeffowski Some years back, I saw a guy wearing a camo-coloured baseball cap, bearing the slogan "you can't see me!"

I thought it was marvelously witty, until some kind soul explained that it was the catchphrase of some celebrity wrestler.
At least they got to me before I tried to buy one for myself.

Have had weird, severe stomach pain since 1pm yesterday without it dissipating (or getting worse, at least.)
It feels like I pulled every muscle on my right side and back, combined with this gnawing/burning feeling. My pain tolerance is pretty high but I'm going to the doctor in case it's gallstones or appendicitis. Yay.

You would think little kids, ruining football, ruining music concerts and movies... any of it would be the last damn straw.

We shouldn't have to teach kids to do "active shooter drills" it's barbaric. Don't tell me we aren't smart enough to solve this. Tell me who's in the damn way.

What is something you have learned you wish you could have told your younger self... but, you also know your younger self would never believe you?

Here are mine:

  • Even if you are a smarty pants you still need to study, probably a lot.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day. Not once. TWICE.
  • The few things about your appearance you have (some) control over are not very important in romance.
  • No, you really do need to sleep.
  • Don't just study what's hard & impressive study what fascinates you.

@futurebird - Trust your own judgement.

  • Be less fearful.
  • You're autistic. That makes you different to most of the people around you. It's not a bad thing, but you do need to learn to adapt.
  • You have ADHD, but it's because you're trans. The sooner you start taking oestrogen, the better your brain (and everything else) will work.

Actually, scratch the first two. They're just corollaries of the other two.
