I wonder why they didn't apply any of their lesson's learned from the 13 models to the 16...it's not like they're starting from scratch with no knowledge, several of the issues mentioned should not exist on a concept that has had multiple iterations already.

Microsoft has gone too far: including a Game Pass ad in the Settings app ushers in a whole new age of ridiculous over-advertising ( www.techradar.com )

Windows 11 is getting out of hand with its push for advertisments, frankly - remember the recent full-screen pop-up to persuade users to install Edge or other Microsoft services? Then another advertisment was placed in the Start menu, and now Microsoft has finally worn my temper thin - with a new Game Pass ad coming to the...

Grippler ,

I wholeheartedly believe that all forma of unsolicited or public advertising should be completely banned. Nothing good comes from it, it is only a nuisance to everyone.

Grippler ,

A regulatory change would obviously need to prevent them from hiding that kind in intentionally too long legalese TOS. It has to be a clear single acknowledge, not obfuscated or bundled with functionality.

Grippler ,

Can it really be a design "overhaul" when it's still just a square with rounded edges, with roughly the same dimensions?

Grippler ,

They just need a way to let users grant that store the necessary permissions to install and manage apps, which currently requires root

No it doesn't? I'm using fdroid to install and manage apps just fine on an Android device without root access.

Grippler ,

They're poor...fuck 'em, who needs them!?

Grippler ,

Then you have to install other software I have no knowledge of to make a bootable drive

Eh, this is the same for windows as well, you always need some sort of installation medium to boot and install from regardless of OS.

Grippler ,

I mean, obviously...but that's not really something that's going to change. And today it is a seriously low barrier to pass, I'm not sure how it could go any lower, aside from.maybe buying a pre-made USB stick for installation. It already requires literally no skill other than basic reading comprehension. There is a plethora of step-by-step guides online, the only thing really keeping people from switching is their own inertia.

Grippler ,

I suppose it is automatic on Window

No it's not... When you have no OS on a computer you still have to create the bootable USB for windows in the exact same way as with Linux, you still need to boot with it the exact same way and follow the installation instructions. The process is identical with the same level of "complexity".

Grippler ,

It's not dependent of circuit, things just need to be on the same phase. Our house uses three phases total, so power line adapters only work for 1/3 of the house here.

Grippler ,

What issues have you had? Ive been using orca for about a year without any issues all. I'm running Mint, both stable and beta branch have been without issues for me.

Grippler ,

The UI of Prusa slicer is hot garbage though. I started with prusa slicer and moved to orca after a few months. Orca is a much nicer experience, and the built-in test-models (temp towers etc.) are nice.

Grippler ,

Yes

Grippler ,

Weird, I'm using the appimage and it starts just fine...what distro are you using?

Grippler ,

I am confused then what is Congress' problem here?

The data is also available to DJI, and through them the CCP.

Grippler ,

I'm not using an ender 3 v3 se, but a bedslinger from anycubic with similar construction, and I'm running 300mm/s max print speed and 9000mm/s^2 max acceleration with consistent decent results.

Grippler , (edited )

The official marlin-based firmware also "only" goes up to something like 200mm/s and 3000mm/s^2 for my model, but I've flashed klipper on it which has given me more control so I wasn't constrained by the limitations set by the manufacturer in the firmware.

I was able to push it to 500mm/s print speed and 11000mm/s^2 accelerations, but small details started to suffer and I was getting too much ringing. For simple large prints I still use it though if I need a quick-ish prototype.

Grippler ,

Using a V6 style hot end with 0.2MM brass CHT nozzle. According to the flow test method CNC kitchen uses I max out around 54mm^3/s @220°C. I can only print that fast on larger prints though because my cooling can't keep up on small prints.

Grippler ,

Think of how well people treat public transport they all depend on...now that place is your car and people are alone and unsupervised. You're going to spend a large amount of time and money keeping the car from being a trashed mess.

Does the form factor between 3.5" and 2.5" matter in a NAS server? ( slrpnk.net )

Been finding some good deals on 2.5 disks lately, but have never bought one before. Have a couple of 3.5 disks on the other hand in my Unraid server. Wondering how much it matters wether I get a 2.5 or not? What form factor do you prefer/usually go for?

Grippler ,

I think 3.5" are usually priced better per tb than 2.5" drives and performance is usually better too. So unless you feel like burning money for an inferior solution, are have some space constraints that doesn't allow 3.5" drives, I wouldn't go with 2.5" drives. They're more energy efficient though, but you'd need a fuckton of drives for that to make a worthwhile difference in your power bill.

Grippler ,

Where's the piped-link bot when you need it...

Grippler ,

I would rather have no search-capability

Grippler ,

That does sound more like a user issue than a software issue though

Grippler ,

Well that's a big ol' "whoosh" on me then 😅

Finally deleted my LinkedIn account!

After putting my account into "hibernation" for the past few weeks, I finally closed it. But I'm still looking for work. Thankfully I can still find positions (SRE and software dev) by just going directly to the company's site and finding a Jobs page.

Good luck to everyone else out there looking for work!

Grippler ,

I've gotten almost all my jobs, and probably a handful of offers, and more messages from recruiters than I can count, through LinkedIn...it's definitely the easiest way to find and get a job IME. I don't think I've gone "job hunting" since I was fresh out of university looking for my first job.

Grippler ,

you "have to" bring it to Tesla for repairs and service

That's some big ass quotation marks, because it's not true at all. I've only had mine fixed by Tesla when it was a warranty issue. The service I've had done (brakes, general checkup and AC) have been done by a local shop without any issues. Had a fender bender that was fixed by a local shop too without any issues.

Grippler ,

Their hourly rate is certainly lower than my local shop.

Grippler ,

If the US decides to ban it then that's a move from the Chinese playbook. Don't be like China.

It has a bit of the same vibe as the "tolerating intolerance" paradox.

Grippler ,

You're right, it's more akin to a ponzi scheme.

Grippler ,

The article's metric seems to be whether or not they own a driver's license, not a car. So whether or not they can afford to own a car isn't really a part of this article's dataset, although they do touch on why they don't own a car in the article as well.

Grippler ,

The unit of measure in this article is whether or not they have a driver's licence, not a car...I'm pretty sure even gen Zers can afford a driver's license, if they actually wanted it. Not having a driver's licence is very much a choice, to a much higher degree than owner a car (or house)

Grippler ,

I got a licence when I was 18 (legal driving age where I live) despite not owning a car or planning to anytime soon. I could still borrow my parent's car sometimes, which was nice. This article specifically talks about teens in the 16-17 year old range, very much able to borrow a car from parents (if they have one)

Grippler ,

Yeah it costs around 2k Euros where I live, which is enough to also buy a small beater...but this article is US-focused only, and it's significantly cheaper to get a licence in the US, hence my comment.

Grippler ,

You can't make a perfect UI, because people think differently. What is obvious and logical to one person, is obscure and nonsensical to another. It is impossible to make a one-size-fits-all interface to anything, not just software.

Grippler ,

You can use online banks like revolut for virtual debit cards in Europe.
