I'd love, sometime, to discuss High-Trust Trad setting design, because it's something I love. But, it's non-essential.

Which is to say, I can easily run a campaign in the Champions universe, and it's hard to imagine a lower-trust setting than the Champions universe. The setting wouldn't even put a drag on the process; it wouldn't slow us down a bit. So, the setting doesn't much matter as long as it's one everyone at the table digs.

But, I still love HTT setting design.

@SJohnRoss While Champions is a terribly self-serving and disempowering piece of writing, I'm not sure I'd call any superhero setting "low trust." After all, (real) superhero games are where the GMing wheat is separated from the chaff. Not every writer can be Mark Waid, and not every GM can run a proper game for characters who are, by definition, meant to be immune to low-level plots.

Could you please elaborate on how you see Champions' earth Low-Trust?

@SJohnRoss Please elaborate, how are such scarecrows "low trust"?

I will definitely never have the time to do this, but I would absolutely love doing a limited podcast series or blog series where each entry/episode is a reimagining/redesign of a classic Low-Trust Trad adventure to High-Trust Trad standards.

Pick one from Traveller, one from Twilight 2000, one from RuneQuest, etc. Have a "season" of six, probably.

Would be fun. Will not do. 😅

@SJohnRoss Hard Mode: Try it with any of Paizo's multi-book Second Order Idiot Plots that IS NOT RISE OF THE RUNELORDS (since that one is the only one that had the decency of giving you the full adventure summary in book 1, thus allowing you to adapt for changes).

@Jackgiantkiller PL 8? So you're aiming for street level? The Spoiler? (definitely not Cassandra Cain, let alone Damian) Luke Cage? Punisher? (your pitch is clearly iron age since it declares a corrupt state).

I need to ask: Which are your three main influences in what you consider the superhero genre?

@Jackgiantkiller I wish you all the luck. Every time someone starts a M&M table, an angel gets their wings! (It happens to be my favorite game)

    New!

Old Gods and Young Guns is a system-agnostic setting for a space fantasy western setting mashing up Jack Kirby cosmic comics with a space western setting.

@epidiah The world moves too fast today, and memes expire within days. Furthermore, even when videogame publishers can get away with keeping Masterchief around forever, movie studios can't say the same (Hugh Jackman said it: "It's wolvering the one who doesn't grow old, not me"). You'd have to look specifically among decade-long franchises like Fast and the Furious, since being "ever present" is the only way movies have to stick in the minds of a generation with the attention span of a gnat.

Ugh. Just saw someone blatantly violating my copyright over on Ye Merrye Drive Thru, to the tune of an entire book.

I strongly suspect it's an innocent mistake, something devoid of malice or sneaky intent ... but ugh. I mostly just hate having to email the DTRPG people; they've never been easy to work with on anything, and previous copyright-violation issues have been minor nightmares.

If Evil Genius games has been revealed to be, let's say, not genius, while Evil Hat games is known to be not evil...

...Symmetry demands that the sentient hat be real.

    GamesPeoplePlay ,
    @GamesPeoplePlay@dice.camp avatar

@LeviKornelsen You clearly don't remember Evil Hat resorting to mafia tactics to blacklist from OBS small-fry publishers Fred Hicks didn't like. I wouldn't blame you, it was about ten years ago (also, history is written by the victors).

I don't care if it was just some little OSR edgelord, or if this edgelord was friends with "deplorables;" the moment you resort to corpo mafia tactics, you lose any moral high ground and become one with Gygax (either Gygax, neither was a saint).
