Boozilla , to Ask Lemmy in Have you got any weird questions for the opposite gender?
@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

I think it's common, but not universal. I sleep on my side hugging a 2nd pillow. That's the most comfortable for me. When I wake up in a weird position, it's on my back with arms splayed out like a gunshot victim.

Yup. It's just human storage and performative "productivity". It's about making the people who take credit for the hard work of others look and feel necessary.

What frustrates the hell out of me is that if they would just allow everyone who can work from home do so, it helps cut down emissions. It won't solve the whole thing, of course. But it's a super easy way to make a difference.

But control freak bosses are all "Good news, everyone! You must return to working in the office. Because it is so much better. It makes me feel important, you see. If I don't see your butts in chairs in front of monitors, I don't think you're actually doing anything."

Minor stuff like that makes me think that we're really doomed here. Late stage capitalism won't even do the easiest of easy things about climate change.

Boozilla , to Ask Lemmy in Have you ever scent trained a dog? Do you have experience with a blind pet?
@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

Do you have a regular vet you like and trust? I'd call them for advice. They may have a really helpful booklet or other training materials they can provide.

If you needed any further proof that stock prices are mostly bullshit, check out the graph for RDDT.

It's interesting and depressing to me that reddit as a corporate entity is the antithesis of what 90% of active redditors would claim themselves to be. Yet they stay there and participate anyway.

Boozilla , to Work Reform in Employees Who Stay In Companies Longer Than Two Years Get Paid 50% Less
@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

Article is old but I have often heard this anecdotally. I have known a number of people over the years who changed jobs every 1-2 years, because they said it's the only way to get ahead salary-wise. I suspect it's a lot harder to pull it off now, tough. There's a lot of fake job postings. Not to mention running the gauntlet of submitting your resume 300 times to get auto-rejected 299 times by some dumbass AI where a clueless HR person typed in the criteria prompt. "A young person with at least 30 years of experience who knows ALL the latest technology but will work for less than a landscaper per hour thanks bye".

P.S. I'm not shitting on landscapers. They do real work, unlike most office drones like me.

Boozilla , to General Discussion in Hiking, hiking, hiking
@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

This varies greatly by terrain and location, but it's easy to get lost on some trail systems. GPS is a huge help, but is limited by battery life and the amount of data the map has (heh, doesn't have) about your immediate surroundings.

Many years ago, I went hiking with a large experienced group and one of the hikers (an attractive person I was interested in) got bored with the route the leader was taking us on. She talked me into splitting off with her. Sounds like the dumb premise of a porno or horror movie, I know.

But it wasn't fun or romantic when we got lost for a couple of hours. It was scary as hell. Fortunately, we were able to backtrack to a trail junction where the main group found us again on their way back out. We got very lucky.

Nothing good ever came from that particular friendship, either. Other than learning some life lessons.

Anyway, stay with your group and make sure you have navigation well covered.

Boozilla , to Ask Lemmy in Do you have any non-political/non-religious/ things about yourself that you're less afraid to share online than IRL?
@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. And I understand how weird and silly it must all look to people who don't have it. But it gets tedious quickly.

@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

ASMR. Not afraid so much, just don't want to be annoyed by the predictable responses from the skeptics and "comedians". And ASMR is old news. People have mostly moved on. But I'm still very grateful for the AMSR performance artists and fellow aficionados out there.

Boozilla , to Ask Lemmy in Have you ever clicked on an ad *on purpose?*
@Boozilla@lemmy.world avatar

I'm sure I have once or twice over the years. I block ads as much as possible now, though, using multiple methods.
