Anyone want to hire me to do stuff for them? I’m good with my hands, good at problem solving, and good with people. I’ve worked on farms and gardens, used gps and made maps, taught archery, set up and run estate sales, built treehouses and converted train cars, taught ceramics, tutored computer science and gis, worked in a library, surveyed nesting birds, done a lot of photography obviously lol, and probably some other stuff I’m forgetting. Not looking for resources on how to find jobs but if you have one in particular to tell me about I’m interested lol. I’m so tired of searching.

I had to detransition the first time I attempted transition.

I was in a very bad way medically in a foreign country where I didn’t speak the language and where there was high bias against trans folks.

It was miserable.

Four years later I restarted and have never looked back.

I used to be really excited for what the next smart phone would offer. Or the next tablet. Or hell, the next smart watch.

Not any more. And of course this happens when all technology (or gadgets) become old-hat.

Thing is there IS new stuff that might be exciting. VR. MR. AR. They haven't hit their stride yet. I SHOULD feel excited to see what happens when they do.

But I don't.

Why/? I honestly think is the software. The monetisation. The -companies- themselves.

The companies selling the new gadgets make me not care.

No matter how fancy the tech, it won't stop it just straight-up boring me. Even when Apple or even Meta show off something new with a VR headset, I never do more than glance at it for a moment, before browsing away to a different article or video.

Basically, what I'm saying is: capitalism killed my interest in gadgets and technology, almost entirely.

I'm more excited by weird $40 open source bits of hardware, despite many using decades old tech.

So that's what I think I'll focus on. The weird shit. The cool shit. The bizarre re-uses of 8-bit Z80 or 6502 processors. Of cheap e-Ink displays on 2010-vintage microcontrollers.

Maybe I'll find some joy again there.

l’m wondering where on that axis Senakw lands.

Squamish Nation is redeveloping their land in Vancouver. The hyper-NIMBYs living next to it complained NIMBYishly. Squamish told them their concerns were heard and they increased the size of the development.

And because it’s First Nations land, it’s exempt from the usual municipal red tape.

    And she is delivering a hard message in an antiempathetic way, which was her problem eight years ago as well.

    This feels like telling a cancer patient to “get over it.”

    I’m saying this as a soon to be candidate. I am using empathy and compassion as the foundations of my campaign, highlighting the work the party I’m upping with has done to improve the lives of my neighbours. Browbeating them is the opposite of helpful.

    My sister, who is a few weeks away from being a registered RN told the following story about a very Good Boy.

    A patient with schizophrenia suffered from periodic hallucinations of people who weren't there. He got himself a service dog, and one of the service dog's chores was to go up and greet people on command.

    So: if the dog went up to greet a person, the person was real. And if the dog did not greet a person when commanded, the person was a hallucination.

    Service dogs are all goodbois.

    Hope is what you do when you think that there’s something you can do to make the situation better. It doesn’t mean that you know how to solve the whole thing. It means that you know what to do next… If there is a step that you can take next that will take you to a place where there might be another step, then you have hope, and you can do something.

    Spent the last few hours crossing a few streams.

    I am doing some work for @hopeconf.

    I’m taking a look at some stuff @pluralistic has shared at the event over the years.

    And I’m incorporating a little of that in my work, helping those who want out of cultlike organizations find their way out.

    As Cory said, once one has principles that are simple, that can anticipate and correct for future lapses, they can inform everything you do.
