    Dla osoby właśnie tracącej wzrok (diagnoza w trakcie) szukam rekomendacji linuksowych aplikacji typu lupa ekranowa, polski porządny screen reader i wtyczek do FF polepszających widzialność.

    W przyszłości Jakiś , albo wtyczka do wiadomości głosowych na Friendice.

    Anyone?

    I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon #Bookstodon #Scifi #ScienceFiction

    @Jennifer Everything by:

    • C. J. Cherryh for intricate personal/social interspecies dynamics under pressure.
    • Paolo Bacigalupi for climate fiction before it became hot topic. No space opera, though.

    Obviously The Expanse, political space opera of rare quality: both the book and the TV series worth it.

    Also:
    Charlie Jane Anders: Unstoppable trilogy (YA, very interesting)
    Adrian Tchaikoffsky: Children of Time series.

    @bananarama @Miro_Collas @gwit Ask the Jews who confront the settler state of Israel. It is your internal problem. Exporting the hutzpah will not solve it.

    Also, re: (2) I have genetic markers pointing towards Persia. So what?

    8petros ,
    @8petros@petroskowo.pl avatar

    @bananarama @Miro_Collas @gwit Funfact: the essential marker of Jewish identity (being born from a Jewish Mother) is pretty much racist per se.

    @8petros@petroskowo.pl avatar

    @bananarama @Miro_Collas @gwit Whaterver you say, it is obvious that you, Jews, have a massive internal problem of identity (plus an intergenerational PTSD). It is ok, as long as dealing with it does not include killing other people in droves, stealing their land and get innocent bystanders involved.
    Israel is a state of mind.

    8petros ,
    @8petros@petroskowo.pl avatar

    @bananarama @Miro_Collas @gwit As an anarchist I can only wonder why you, Jews, so badly crave state, which is nothing but the monopoly of violence - why not adopt , for example. No state, no problem, no war.

    8petros ,
    @8petros@petroskowo.pl avatar

    @bananarama @Miro_Collas @gwit The intergenerational trauma started at least with the Shoah, and is openly and officially cultivated as the part of Israeli social conditioning. If you do not know it, you are hardly ready to discuss the topic.

    @bookstodon Even if it doesn't catch on, I would like to institute #WhatchaReadingWednesday a hashtag which already exists, I believe? Anywho, whatcha reading?

    #IAmReading Ben H. Winter's new book BIG TIME, and it's really good so far. It is lean, so perfect for those who hate padding in their stories. I don't want to give away the premise, so I will just say that it's a bit of a thriller that involves time itself.

    A man set himself on fire at the Israeli embassy in DC. Earlier reports did not include this:
    “The individual, wearing fatigues, introduces himself as “an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force and I will no longer be complicit in genocide.””
    And he continues yelling “Free Palestine.” @palestine

    Reading in the foreword to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea that Verne originally envisioned Captain Nemo as a Polish noble on an underwater campaign of vengeance against the Russian Empire that'd killed his entire family, but that this version was pronounced unprintable by his publisher for political reasons. @bookstodon

    @patterfloof @albnelson @eivind Fascinating stuff. I just started it and will finish tomorrow. I almost forgot such things are still being written nowadays. Thank you.

    @8petros@petroskowo.pl avatar

    @albnelson @eivind @mattmcirvin Pretty much the epitome of then Polish emigrés' mindset - the Great Emigration is a half of the dialectical compound, defining Polish self-identification almost until now (and perhaps soon again).

    Polish tradition is full of such figures, citizens of imagined, never-again-to-exist, homeland. Picture yourself, what a cultural shock was to see Polonia Rediviva - an ideal, unavoidably imperfectly embodied.

    "Gen Z is bringing back reading," says The Week, which leads us to wonder what the heck it is we've been doing all these years. But, the publication explains, it's not just reading — it's real books, made of paper. Per research published in @TheConversationUS: "Gen Zers and millennials prefer books in print over e-books and audiobooks" which has manifested in an "unlikely love affair with their local libraries." Here's a breakdown of what might be happening. We want to know: How do you like to read these days?

    When there's a new RPG on the block claiming to do , I'm obviously interested. Recently, @FullyAutomatedRPG made its way to me via @fiction so I'm giving it a look. What does it want to do? It wants to be a kind of D&D for Solarpunk – a big kitchen sink game that becomes a cornerstone for the genre. That's… Hm, I like my RPGs written with a lightning focus on telling specific stories, so I feel like I'll be biased against , but let's see. 1/8

    8petros ,
    @8petros@petroskowo.pl avatar

    @Anaphory @FullyAutomatedRPG Folks, can you be persuaded NOT to slice long texts so thinly? I can understand if the post is highly structured, so you encourage threaded discussion, assigned to specific sections - I am using this method myself.
    But for the longer-winded texts my eyes and mind hurt, seeing your thoughts lethally chopped.
    Granted, everything can be written and read in any form (I wrote a porn poem once, in a form of sms log) but not everything is palpable.

    8petros ,
    @8petros@petroskowo.pl avatar

    @alxd @Anaphory @FullyAutomatedRPG I believe that changing your admin mind is a piece-a-cake, compared to changing the world, as SolarPunk strives to. ;-)

    If nothing helps, I offer interested parties free accounts at Petroskowo, much more suitable for serious deliberations.
