One of the best RPG soundtracks on the SNES is one you may have missed. Bahamut Lagoon was a Squaresoft game that never made it out of Japan (you can get fan translations though). The music was composed by Noriko Matsueda, and I think it rivals the Final Fantasy soundtracks. She only composed a few albums, but they are awesome.

It's and todays theme is One of my favorite and most played Sega Megadrive (Genesis) games was Streets of Rage 2. The soundtrack is still a banger!

It still blows my mind that composer Yuzo Koshiro was only 22 back then 🤯 He started composing video game soundtracks when still in high school. Check out a photo of his setup in 1989 in this recent feature:
